December 1-2
The Town of Rockford is holding a Christmas decorating contest and invites all residents, businesses and groups within the town limits of Rockford to show their Christmas spirit by decorating their yards, porches, or the fronts of their businesses. Entrants will have the opportunity to win some shopping cash! First place will be awarded $100 cash, second place will receive $75, and third place will get $50. Entry forms are available at Town Hall, and they must be completed and turned in to Town Hall no later than December 1. Displays must be completed by December 2. Must live or the business must be located within the Rockford town limits to be eligible. Judging will take place December 2, and entrants are asked to have their displays and lights on between 6-8 p.m. Winners will be announced at the town’s Rockin’ Coosa Christmas event on December 10.
December 3
Poplar Point Camp in Hanover is hosting WinterFest indoors at the camp facility from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, December 3. The event will include vendors, a silent auction, chili cook off, and more. Come enjoy this family event! For more information on Poplar Point, visit the camp’s website at poplarpointcamp.com.
December 10
Rockin’ Coosa Christmas event will be held December 10 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. We will have plenty of fun festivities including vendors with food, items for purchase and games for children. The library will be holding an open house inside Town Hall with additional fun festivities.
December 12
Shop with the Sheriff returns this year! The Coosa County Sheriff’s Office is accepting cash donations to help children this Christmas season. Your donation will help put a smile on a child’s face. The deadline for donations is December 12. For more information, contact Shelia Thomas at 256-377-4922, option 4.
December 13
Rockford Baptist Church will host its monthly Community Dinner on Tuesday, December 13, from 4-7 p.m. Everyone is welcome, and the meal is free. However, donations are accepted. The monthly Community Dinner is held the second Tuesday of each month at the church’s Family Life Center. The church is located at 9575 U.S. Highway 231, Rockford.
December 16
BridgeWays is introducing its newest program, Kids’ Night Out/Parents’ Night Off! This program will be held one Friday night per month, and is scheduled for December 16. Themes will change each month. Dinner included, as well as all activities, games, crafts, and more! All current PK-fifth graders welcome. Cost: $12 per youth, per month. Drop off begins at 5:30 p.m. Pickup by 9 p.m. Program will be held at our new Program Center at 9922 U.S. Highway 231, Rockford. Registration link: https://bridgewayscoosa.campbrainregistration.com.
Weekly
The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly
The Friends of Flagg Mountain host a potluck dinner (bring something to share) with entertainment by local musicians on the First Friday of every month. The Coosa County Republican Party meets the fourth Monday of every month at the Coosa County E-911 building in Rockford with refreshments at 6 p.m. and the meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information email coosacountyrepublicans@gmail.com.
Quarterly
The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!

The Coosa County Historical Society is looking into adding names to the Veteran’s Memorial near the old rock jail in Rockford. The organization is currently seeing how many would be interested in having a name placed on the monument. Currently they only need your name and contact information. They would need at least 10 names to keep the cost affordable. They would then contact those interested to give them the cost and payment information.
