Union Square News
Ruby Johnson
Congratulations to all of the winners of the local elections.
Coosa County has two new faces on the County Commission, Brandon Davis and John Forbus. What a blessing. We need to give the young people a chance because they are ready and willing.
I say “bravo” to the young people who went out and voted. Young voters are no joke. They will save this country. Republicans want to raise the voting rights to the age of 28. What about raising gun rights to the age of 30?
Union Square wants to honor a deceased great man’s birthday on November 20, Union Square’s Mr. Demp Johnston, and his nephew Johnny Davis on November 15. Happy birthday in loving memories.
There is a change coming in Union Square. Watch the news and also in this county, country and world. We better get ready.
Let me take a moment and say, “Thanks to all of you veterans for serving our country.” We love you.
Happy birthday to my granddaughter Amirah Johnson, my dear friend Frankie Cousin, my nephews Ricardo Hill and Jerome Hill, and to all November babies. Happy heavenly birthday to our very own former commissioner Mr. Paul Perrett.
Our prayers go to the families of Mrs. Mary Ruth Gates, a wonderfully precious lady who will be missed.
Also to the families of Mr. Otis Williams who spent many years working for the Coosa County Highway Department, a man that everyone will never forget.
Mrs. Gates’s Celebration of Life was a very sweet one, held at New Elam Baptist Church in Kellyton. Pastor Eddie Jennings did the eulogy with heartfelt words and some sweet laughs as Pastor Jennings always does it. He will make you laugh in the midst of sadness, a great man of God.

Union Square’s Patsy Johnston’s great-granddaughter, Mary Ware Horton, turned 3 years old on November 7. She makes her grandmother’s and Aunt Lena’s hearts rise for joy.
Lena is on our prayer list, for more joy when she can get more strength back into her hand. Lena works hard with her hands, baking, sewing, planting, etc. She loves doing it without complaining.
It’s easy to complain. However, when Lena loses her joy she rejoices in the Lord instead.
Our fur babies are so special. They give us much joy watching them play together.
Kobe is a dog, and Smokey is a cat; both males, and both are black and white. Coincidentally they both were given to us, and we just adore them.
Butch laughs and says, “Ruby, the whole house family is black and white. Look how they get along. They don’t see colors. They are not racist. Why can’t people live like that?”
“When a dog wags his tail it is connected to his heart.”
“A dog can show you more honest affection with a flick of his tail than a man gathers through a lifetime of handshakes.” – Gene Hill
“Dogs leave little paw prints on our hearts.”
