In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
The election is over here in Coosa County – finally. There were only a couple of competitive races for us to decide since many of the candidates were unopposed. There were two races with Independents who lost because they were running against candidates who were much more qualified for the jobs.
Thanks to the voters who took the time to do their civic duty and responsibility by making their voices heard. Any of you who did not vote, please do not complain with any of the outcomes.
Mainly, thanks to the candidates who put themselves out there to offer their service to our county. Now it’s up to the winners to show us they deserved the support of the voters.
We have a County Commission that will have two new faces, and let’s see if they are able to work together as a group to better the county as a whole. I am hoping one of the first things they will do is to provide us to the ability to watch their meetings online with good audio. They have some of the equipment that is needed, but it hasn’t been used in years. We the people need more transparency from our elected officials!
There will be a new face on our Coosa County School Board, and I’m hoping we will see a continued effort to improve the education that our children are receiving. There seems to be renewed participation by parents with all the activities that are going on. I personally would like to see more joint communication between the School Board and the County Commission – they BOTH represent the two most important parts of our county government.
On the national level there may not be definite results on some races until next week. Glitches in the systems, arguments on which voting laws will be upheld, plus just some very close races are all part of the reason for the delay.
Again, the many different voting laws and procedures in the independent states play in to what is becoming a nightmare of getting votes counted in a timely manner. We are so lucky here in Coosa County to have Judge Dean and our election officers who have the system running like a well-oiled machine!
Let’s all just take a few days to let all this fall into place. Then, please hold these elected officials to the promises they have made. We deserve the very best to help our county grow and prosper.
And on what I think is an even more important topic, TODAY IS VETERANS DAY! It is a day to celebrate all the men and women who signed on the dotted line to give their life for our country.
If you see someone wearing a military hat or other sign they are a veteran, please thank them EVERY day for their service. They are the reasons we still have freedom in America.
Now, on to the next challenge – pray for our country and our leaders. We have major issues that need to be corrected in order to save us from ourselves. God bless America.
