Coosa Upward youth sports ministry celebrates end of soccer season with costumes, cake, awards

Coosa County youth, family and friends celebrated the soccer season with medals, plaques, cake, punch, and ice cream thanks to Justin Goff at Blue Bell Creameries.
The first season of youth soccer included 23 youth coached by volunteer managers Phillip Carlisle, Samantha Hamilton, Margaret Pippin, and Austin Robinson. Current and former student athlete volunteers Steven Hardy, Emma Jones, TJ Lambert, Conner Mitchell, Mallory Parrish, Alan Rodriquez, and Cade Shurette served as assistant coaches for the program.
Thank you also to our volunteer referees Aaron Hamilton, Kane Limbaugh, John Richardson, and Scott White. The Weogufka Family Worship Center, under pastors Tommy Thornton and Phillip Alverson, is the host church of the program, but multiple church partners served as Game Day Host churches, including Equality Methodist, New Home Baptist Church, Peace and Goodwill, New Providence Baptist Church, and Sardis Baptist Church.
Game Day Host churches provided volunteers for the concessions and delivered the half-time devotion to spectators.
Thank you to our 2022 financial partners who enabled us to purchase equipment, supplies, volunteer apparel, volunteer recognition items, participant scholarships, and end-of-season celebration items: Roger Wilder, the Hyatt family, the Castleberry family, Cheryl Alverson, Wayne Ward at Central Alabama Fire Protection, First Bank, Joey and Anita Moore, Scott White at Infinity Real Estate, Dennis Sanford, Tommy and Nancy Thornton, Phillip and Paige Alverson, Empowered to Conquer (silver), Coosa County Family Dentistry (silver), Kellyton Fire Department under Chief Jerry Sewell (gold), Nelson Electric under John Forbus (gold), and Weogufka Family Worship Center (platinum).
Community partners who provided practice locations this season were the Town of Rockford and Central Coosa schools. Special thank you to co-director Lynn Castleberry who manages the concession on game days and Upward Coosa Sports’ Facebook page.
We look forward to continuing to work with our partners to provide a year-round youth sports experience in Coosa County that allows our youth to grow both athletically and spiritually.
