This hearty dish is wonderful for family suppers or potluck meals and makes for some great comfort food. It is also a perfect side dish for your next holiday meal While the recipe calls for ham, you can omit the meat altogether, or you can substitute chicken in place of the ham if you wish. I hope that your family will enjoy this tasty scalloped potatoes recipe.
Butter for greasing casserole dish
6 medium red potatoes, sliced 1/8 inch thick (2 lb. 4 oz. peeled)
2 Tbs. butter, melted
1 c. diced smoked ham (can omit or substitute chicken)
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 c. shredded gruyere cheese (can use cheddar)
1 c. milk
1 bay leaf
1/4 tsp. ground white pepper

Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease an 11×7” baking dish with butter. In a large bowl combine potatoes, butter, salt, garlic powder, and fresh cracked pepper.
Layer half of potato slices in the baking dish; top with about half of the ham and half of the cheese. Add the remaining potatoes and top with the remaining ham.
In a small saucepan bring milk, thyme, bay leaf, and ground pepper to a boil; pour over potatoes. Top with remaining cheese. Bake for approximately 45-60 minutes or until potatoes are done. Enjoy!
