Union Square News
Ruby Johnson
Last Sunday was a beautiful day for us. Butch and I attended a blessed worship service where we were welcomed as special guests. However, we were home and not guests or strangers.
We attended Way of the Cross Church of God in Clanton where our former pastor, Terry Hicks, is the overseer. We felt at home as he and Lady Vickie Hicks gave a big shout out to us, letting everyone know how we are a blessing to them and their family, especially their 7-year-old granddaughter Olivia, who has been wanting me to come to their church for months and sing. Thank God He allowed it to happen.
Also their other grandchildren; Jackson, Ryan, Brayden, and Mackenzie; and their two daughters, Misty and Jessica, were all happy to see us, and we were more than happy to see and fellowship with them. They made our Sunday very special.
Pastor Hicks preached so well about having faith in God and embracing it that people were filled and laid prostrate on the floor speaking in tongues, like their faith had made them whole. I had not seen the movement of God like that in a long time. God truly used Pastor Hicks. Hicks said he was going to preach one thing, but God took him in another direction.
He obeyed God, and the Holy Spirit took full control. Everyone, including young children, were worshiping and praising God, and that’s what it’s about. Everybody can praise God. It doesn’t matter how old you are.
Speaking of children, let me share a few things about them and God’s doing. Six-year-old Olivia, visiting her grandparents from Florida, saw me praising God in church one Sunday and asked my granddaughter Amirah, “Does your grandmother really love God?” She saw me praising God again. She said to Amirah, “Your grandmother really loves Jesus.”
Butch’s granddaughter Shelby works with children who suffer with mental disorders. On Monday this 7 year old was giving Shelby and some of the workers a hard time. He finally ran to Shelby, got very quiet and began speaking in tongues. Oh how that blessed me when Shelby told me.
I told Shelby that God sent him to someone that knows about the tongues. Some folks wouldn’t understand. God can work through anybody He chooses. Shelby was stunned! I told her to pray for that child, and I did, as well.
Mrs. Joyce Taylor attended a Church of God camp meeting some weeks ago where six children were filled with the Holy Ghost and began praying in tongues. God is tired of some of us older people not trying to get the Holy Ghost and looking at children like they don’t know what they are doing when it comes to God using them.
No they don’t, but the Holy Spirit guides and teaches them, and some of us don’t know either unless we allow the Holy Spirit to come in.
God is going to use children to bring this world together into peace if we adults don’t get it together and be filled with the Holy Spirit. It is needed in today’s time more than ever! We need much guidance, and the Holy Spirit can and will give it to us.
Reminder: The Neighborhood Watch meeting is Monday, August 1, at 6 p.m.
Let’s pray for all neighborhoods, all churches and all people and animals in this heated season.
Happy birthday to Sheba (Reen) Daniels, Aida Tuset, Union Square’s Mrs. Lena Johnston who is a soft spoken young lady and kind to everyone, my son Bernard Johnson, and to all late July and early August’s babies.
