In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
As I write this I am with friends in New Orleans for a few days to go to the World War II Museum. All of us have been at least once, but have never seen all of it so we are dedicating this trip to see it all – even if it takes three days! My favorite period of history is WWII, and I love everything about it.
Since I grew up in Mobile, New Orleans has always been a nearby place to visit, but it’s just not what it used to be. Like many other large cities under Democratic rule, the police have been defunded and cut back that many areas are not safe to walk around in like they were in the past. Somehow all I’ve heard about murders lately were New York City, Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angeles but, all of a sudden, New Orleans was announced recently as having the highest murder rate in the country.
That is just really sad to me, and I’m not sure I want to believe it. But, I’m still going to enjoy myself while I’m here. There is a new Cafe du Monde close to City Park so we won’t have to go to the French Quarter for beignets!
One other exciting thing that happened on my way here was finding gas for $3.71 at the Shell station at the Creek Indian Casino in Atmore. I had never been to the casino before, but I needed gas, and the price was right! I think it might have been $3.55 at the casino in Wetumpka, but I had a full tank there. I’m thinking it is cheaper at the Indian properties because they don’t have to pay the state and federal taxes that other businesses do.
We will continue to fight the rising cost of fuel for the foreseeable future since President Biden wasted a trip to Saudi Arabia asking them to provide more oil to the world. He could have just picked up the phone, opened up American drilling and refineries, and the cost of gas would have immediately dropped and we would have been energy independent again.
Plus we could have sold cleaner oil to the rest of the world and pulled the rug out from under Russia. But no, that would have benefited American citizens, and that is not on his agenda. And, in the meantime, he has sent some of OUR reserve supplies to China!
Something else not on President Biden’s agenda is closing our southern border. He and his administration continue to insist we have a closed border, but illegal immigrants are pouring over it like a cake walk. As these immigrants are confronted by our Border Patrol agents, it’s called “encounters” rather than apprehensions now.
They are not apprehended and returned; they are encountered and released. In June of 2020, there were 33,049 “encounters;” in June of 2022, there were 207,416 “encounters.” We are on track to have more than 2 million illegal immigrants come in our country THIS YEAR alone. Please, everyone, work hard and pay taxes to support all of these people coming in to take advantage of all of the benefits that only Americans are supposed to receive.
And the idea that these are all Mexicans coming to America is long gone. These people are from all over the world and include criminals, terrorists and gang members. They bring with them illegal drugs of all kinds that continue to kill our citizens – especially our young people.
These are not well educated people who can contribute to our society – most cannot even speak English. The children will be put into our schools, and the education system will now have to hire translators with almost every language you can imagine in order to “mainstream” them in our schools – taking away from the education that is meant for our American children. Yes, I am an “American First” believer.
But what is being done to help OUR homeless, veterans and disabled citizens? Not nearly what is done for all of these people arriving at our border with cell phones, clean clothes and the ability to pay thousands of dollars to the cartels to get them here. Meanwhile, most of our major cities are being taken over by tents on sidewalks, “safe places” to use drugs, free needles, etc. for people who refuse to work or who have learned to work the system to get public assistance.
The reason our unemployment rate is so low AND businesses can’t find workers is because so many people are living off government assistance instead of working. We are living in a world upside down.
Living in rural areas keeps us out of many of these issues, but we are not immune to the economic disasters of higher cost of fuel, supplies and food. We have to travel further for all of these things. Businesses are not operating to break even – they are in business to make a profit after paying their employees, the benefits the government requires to be paid for those employees, the cost of the goods they sell, and the taxes and licenses that the government requires just for them to be in business. This is why you are seeing so many businesses close their doors. They survived COVID-19, but couldn’t survive Biden.
Things have been tight for the last several years because of the “pandemic,” but they are getting much worse and will continue to do so because the government we elected is not interested in Americans and our future. You need to really be watching and listening between now and November.
