Ten Central cheerleaders along with their sponsor, Mrs. Bailey, returned proudly from the Universal Cheerleaders Association camp at Auburn University this week. Attendees pictured with their awards are Rebekah Burton, Reagan Cardwell, Katie Meeks, Alissa Cosby, Destini Kelley, Adrianna Walker, Lamiya Harrison, Kelsey McLaughlin, Danni Morgan, and Aerial Green.
The Central squad, composed of members in seventh-twelfth grades, competed against ninth-twelfth grade and eleventh-twelfth grade squads. The squad earned a superior ribbon for sideline and cheer evaluations during camp, as well as fourth place for their dance routine, fourth place for their cheer routine, fifth place for their sideline routine, and fifth place game day overall.
In addition, first-time camp attendee Rebekah Burton received the Pin-It-Forward award. Recipients are chosen by UCA staff based on leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness, and motivation displayed during camp. Rebekah’s advice is to have fun, get sleep ahead of time, and remember you are a Central Cougar; always believe in yourself!
Senior and squad captain, Alissa Cosby, accepted the Top Banana award for the team. Alissa said of her last time at camp, “I’m so sad. I don’t want this to be my last camp experience; it really hit me when Mrs. Bailey started crying.”
Mrs. Bailey said of the experience, “I am super proud of these girls and can’t wait to see what this school year holds for them.”
