Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Summer has definitely arrived. If you have anything to do outside, try to do it early in the morning or late afternoon. The heat index is really high, especially for this time of year.
Don’t forget that the Richville Volunteer Fire Department will have bingo on Saturday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m. with concessions. Everyone always has an enjoyable time, even if you don’t win! So, make plans to come out and support them.
Providence Baptist Church had a wonderful homecoming with a large crowd. One visitor was Mrs. Francis Belcher’s daughter, Paula.
She brought several of her mom’s photo albums that documented different church events. Everyone enjoyed looking through and finding themselves, family and friends from earlier years.
The Fellowship quartet was great. If you enjoy Southern gospel and need a group, they would be an excellent choice.
Bro. Lee Wilder preached a stirring message. Then, we had a great meal. We have some good cooks in the church.
While the Historical Society has received several names already to be added to the Veteran’s Memorial in Rockford, we are going to extend this initial planning period until the end of June. So, if you or a relative served in the military and would be interested in having your name placed on the Veteran’s Memorial in Rockford, please send me an email or text to my contact information listed at the end of this column. This is for the entire county!
Thanks to those who have already contacted me. If so, then look for more information about the middle of July.
This Sunday is Father’s Day. If your father is still living, plan to visit or at least call. Sometimes we don’t realize how much we will miss them until they are gone.
I still want to tell or ask my daddy some things, and he’s been gone more than five years. Something will be said or happen, that I think Daddy would like that or what would he have to say about it.
So, the Bible passage for this week is one of the Ten Commandments, Exodus 20:12. It reads, “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD they God giveth thee.”
The first part of that verse says honor. What does that mean? The definition of honor is to treat someone with admiration and respect.
Yes, children should respect and obey their parents. While Father’s Day is often more about presents and gifts, that is not all it’s about. There are many ways to honor your father on this day or anytime.
Talk with him about his youth, how his day or week has been, your family history, and about what you’ve been doing. But one of the most important things you can do is pray for him.
Again, be thankful if your father is available to talk or visit with because it’s many that would give anything to be able to talk with their father one more time.
Continue to keep those who have lost loved ones recently in your prayers. There are several in our community that are not feeling well, and others have family that are having health issues. Please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs.
Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
