Rosie’s Ramblings
Rosie Morgan
Hopefully everyone had a great Memorial Day and enjoyed good food with families. My head stayed full of sad thoughts while I watched specials celebrating our service-related men and women; I couldn’t stop thinking about the torture suffered by my father for the duration of WWII being a POW in Changi Prison by the Japanese. My dad would have been 99 years old this month.
Jan Hare of Alex City has a birthday on June 11; plus on that same day Wesley and Kelli Friday of Equality celebrate their twelth year of marriage. My son, Jamie Morgan, and wife, Lisa, will have been married 29 years on June 12. Happy wishes and days to all celebrating this week.
The annual Jazz Fest takes place this Friday and Saturday and is a two-night entertainment event free to the public. Friday evening the music begins at 6:30 until about 10 p.m. The music is usually excellent, but it is very loud, so please consider not bringing babies and puppies as it will surely hurt their young ears.
You can bring a quilt or chairs and your coolers, a picnic supper, or pick up some fast food; or you can purchase freshly cooked items from the vendors there.
Saturday evening the Jazz Fest moves to the Russell Lakeside area. You can look up the Jazz Fest online or through Russell for further details. Hopefully the weather will be congenial and save the rains; I know it will be very hot just as it has been for many years.
I can only recall this festival getting rained out for one year, quite a few years ago, when Ron and I were on the Volunteers Committee. When we work on a goal we are reliable. No one contacted us, so we drove out there just in case there was cleanup from early prep to be done. No one was there at the area surrounding the amphitheatre, just pouring heaven’s hard with rains and rolling mud flowing down the hills.
I just couldn’t believe it when sleepy Joe Biden was running for president and said, paraphrasing, “If you don’t vote for me, you are not Black.” How racist can a person be? How dare he assume that Black folks need to be told how to vote, because of their color. I think that was a disgrace for all Americans.
Down here abouts, all races get along just fine; at this stage of the game, we don’t need a politician to tell us how to be nice to folks. After all, he has not managed to amend anything he promised to do, just made everything so much worse. Because if these things were done “Trump style,” think how much better it would be, especially on gasoline that every American needs. Everyday local folks here just want to be able to afford the groceries, gasoline, utilities, and medicines.
Congratulations to those doing a great job for Coosa County and getting re-elected. We have a good bunch that care about our wellbeing.
Did you receive a card from Medicare, if you are eligible regarding fraud? I got mine about 3 weeks ago, basically to tell me to be careful of folks professing to be Medicare agents of some sort. Ron didn’t get one, so maybe they were sending one card per household.
Please be aware that these scammers not only call on the phone, but send you mail with a similar to Medicare look, asking you to sign up for free coverage, and we all know that nothing is free. You will pay for it in the fine print. If you do get a phone number or address, do contact Medicare toll-free with the details that you can.
Until next week, enjoy the good-weather days, stay hydrated, and keep smiling.
