In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
Another GREAT edition of “The Coosa County News” last week! I am loving these 12 page editions.
The article on the 30 years of providing news for Coosa County was really interesting, and I just wish more people would understand the importance of having a locally owned and operated newspaper.
I hear so many people say “I wish I’d known about that” when they see events that have happened – if they had read the paper, they would have known! I can get the news of the outside world from many other sources, but most of OUR news is only available in “The Coosa County News”!
One of the reasons the CCN has been able to expand the newspaper lately is the amount of political advertising that has been placed with it. Those ads will now go away – except for any runoffs that may be coming. A BIG shout out to Christa and Lydia for their hard work.
I am seeing some of our local businesses placing ads, and I hope they will continue. Plus, we do have businesses in Coosa County and the close surrounding areas that we don’t know about. We need to all support Coosa First if at all possible. If you have a business – let us know about it!
Now, speaking of elections! We are past the primary elections but (as I write this) we will have a runoff in several of the races. Any time three or more people are running for a particular position it’s almost a given. We’ll talk about that later. For now, enjoy a little peace and quiet.
I do have to say I was so sad at seeing only 34 graduates from Central High School Coosa County. As I think back to when I first got involved with Coosa County (about 12 years ago), there were well over 100 in the graduating class.
Even though the academics at Coosa County schools may not be as dire as they are in most public schools, many parents are finding other options to insure their children are not subjected to the indoctrination that has been creeping into public schools for the last 50 years.
Now that the federal government and unions are the driving force in education, that indoctrination is on fast track in preschool through college. I’m sorry I harp on education so much, but that is what shapes our future – regardless of where we live.
It is good to see the “Education” page in the newspaper. There are many changes and upgrades coming to our school system, and we need to know about them. We usually only hear the negative so having some positive to hold on to is great!
The PTO, under guidance of Maressa Ware, has been busy providing activities at the school and promoting participation. If you have kids in our system – get involved! The lack of parental involvement is one of the major issues in the declining education systems.
If you watch the news you have seen parents getting more involved with their local school board meetings and finding out what is really going on. And many of them are being arrested just for speaking out on behalf of their children. I certainly hope it never gets this bad in Coosa County, but parents need to be aware.
OK – let’s all take the weekend off, enjoy the Memorial Day holiday, remember all those in uniform who made that ultimate sacrifice on our behalf, and then come back Tuesday to get at it again!
