In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
What in the world am I going to talk about this week? There are just SO many topics to choose from so let’s see where I go!
But first, I must honor a promise I made a few weeks ago to pass on a message from my friend John Nelson in Weogufka. As you probably are aware, John lost his sweet wife, Teresa, not long ago. John asked me to please pass along his thanks to everyone for their support, prayers and condolences during her illness and death. He appreciates the wonderful people of Coosa County who have reached out to him.
John is doing fine – back up on Flagg Mountain on a regular basis. The mountain held a special place in Teresa’s heart and great memories for John. He can be found at the First Friday Potluck and other events on Flagg Mountain!
As I’m sitting here I understand our president will be giving remarks very shortly on our economy. I can’t wait to hear what else he has come up with to plunge us deeper and deeper into a recession! Why are politicians so determined to destroy everything that was working so well just because they don’t like their predecessor?
What was wrong with low gas prices, lower taxes, control of our border, law enforcement, lower food prices, and putting America first? We ARE America, and we SHOULD come first!
Why was it that one of the very first things President Biden did was to shut down oil production here when we had FINALLY become energy independent and were no longer having to import oil from the middle east and countries who do not like us? Sounds like exactly what happened in Venezuela and just look where they are now – broke, no food, no toilet paper, eating their pets, etc. But wait for it! President Biden is trying to buy oil from THEM!
This one decision made on day one of his administration put hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work and immediately started the rise in gas prices, which in turn causes the price of ALL goods to go up. But what is so confusing to me is that there doesn’t seem to be anyone else in the Democratic Party who seems to understand this either!
I really don’t believe that the shortages we are seeing are only affecting Republicans and conservatives. I haven’t had to state my political party at any gas station or grocery store – have you? What part of this nightmare do people not understand?
The price we pay for EVERYTHING is based on the cost to supply the goods. Farmers are having to pay more for fuel, fertilizer and feed – so, our food prices go up from them. Distributors are having to pay more for the products from the farmers, the fuel to transport the goods to the stores, and more to the truck drivers in wages.
The truck drivers are paying more for their fuel – sometimes out of their own pockets. So, fewer truck drivers are available to transport the foods from the farm to the distributors to the grocery stores.
The grocery stores are paying all of these increases plus increased wages to try to get people to work so they have to increase the prices they charge. And the people who are working for even increased wages of, let’s round it off, 10% are now paying all of the increases in fuel, food and other supplies of MORE than the increase in their wages! This is a vicious cycle that can only be broken by correcting the original issue of oil production!
For those of us who are on a flat income like retirement/Social Security, all of this is even worse because we don’t get the wage increases. We have to stretch our income to cover all the increased costs, but without any hope of more income unless we go back to work. Sorry, but at 70 years old, I am NOT interested in that!
So, like other people, we have to cut back what we buy and what services we use, and this cuts even deeper into the loss of revenue in our economy.
Bottom line is the suppliers are not the problem. Our government is the problem because they caused the increase in the cost of the most important part of the supply chain – fuel. This issue DID NOT start with the Russians invading Ukraine – it started on January 20, 2021, when our own oil supply was cut.
Are you not curious as to why our government would do this? The inflation in our economy is only going to get worse until enough people decide to SPEAK OUT and demand our elected officials put a stop to this. I am thinking that is going to happen during these primary elections to vote in people who will turn this around.
If you are not happy with the state of affairs in our economy, you need to do some serious soul searching before you vote. I realize many of you may not be getting the full and complete truth from the media you depend on. Consider looking elsewhere for your news even if just for an hour or so. I know that is hard to do, but you might find it helpful.
Well, until next week, and we’ll see where we are next – I’m hearing the president is going to go into our oil reserves again so I will prepare for further increases in costs! Glad I’m well stocked on peanut butter!
