Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter in response to the Tuesday, November 9, County Commission meeting. The amount of disrespect shown to our State Representative Edward Oliver was uncalled for. So very disappointed in Commissioner Unzell Kelley. I know there are times when issues might bring out heated discussion, but that is NO EXCUSE for disrespect to be directed to another public official or even those attendees that came to the meeting. Unzell Kelley did both.
The person we elect to office represents the people. We should elect on the ability to act level headed in a manner that is respectful of all viewpoints. Voters need to understand the past is the best indication of the future. We the voters need to pay close attention to the lack of ability to be respectful to fellow officials and the citizens.
I believe the chairman holds responsibility, also. He should have said the actions that were taking place were unacceptable and should be tabled for discussion behind closed doors.
We all need to be fully aware not only of the decisions made that affect our county, but the behavior and track records of those wanting our votes. We rely on outside officials to help us prosper, also. Coosa County cannot afford to burn bridges due to unnecessary comments.
Sincerely,
Concerned citizen
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my extreme embarrassment and disappointment in the behavior of Commissioner Unzell Kelley at the County Commission meeting that was held a couple of weeks ago. I would also like to voice my concern over the ambulance situation.
I am so glad that the paper covered this matter and included direct quotes from this meeting. I am proud to call Coosa County my home county. However, I am ashamed of the way some of the elected officials are conducting themselves. Mr. Kelley was completely out of line in his words, actions and demeanor. Randall Dunham, the chairperson of the commission, failed to call Mr. Kelley out and restore the meeting to order.
These individuals are elected. They aren’t appointed or hired. We choose them. They work for US! We all should remember that important fact. I wish everyone could have heard the tone of Mr. Kelley’s apology; it was haughty, snide and not apologetic at all. His tone did not match his words.
Please remember that 2022 is an election year. The commissioners will be running for reelection; yes, all of them. Also please remember that these meetings are open to the public. If you would like to speak at one of them, contact the commission office to be placed on the agenda.
I sincerely hope that the ambulance issue can be resolved quickly so that the southern part of the county will have coverage that isn’t based out of Kellyton or Goodwater. Goodwater didn’t need a new ambulance. We all need an ambulance in the Rockford area to prevent further deaths due to response time and so that the volunteers in Kellyton and Goodwater aren’t overworked. This is an opportunity to help our county as a whole, not show the entire state our behinds!
Sincerely,
An upset yet normally quiet observer
