Carolyn Culver Jackson

 

Memorial service for Mrs. Carolyn Culver Jackson, 70, of Goodwater, was Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Tommy Thornton officiated.

Mrs. Jackson passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021, at Russell Medical. She was born on July 5, 1951, in Rockford, Alabama, to Theron Culver and Opal Smith Culver. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and worked for several years as a courier for Southtrust Bank. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping at Walmart and tending her cats. Mrs. Jackson’s life centered around her family, and she dearly loved them all. They all enjoyed her wonderful spaghetti suppers.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Donald G. Jackson of Goodwater; daughter, Donna Horn (Scott) of Goodwater; and son, Jeremy Jackson (Wendy Shuler) of Goodwater; grandchildren, Colton Jackson, Dawson Horn, and Kaylei Horn; sisters Shelia Pody and Tanny Braddy (Bill); and a host of special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Endress and Shirley Brown; and brother, George Campbell.

The family requests no flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to any local animal shelter.

Heather Ann Unger Meeks

 

Funeral service for Heather Ann Unger Meeks, 46, of Goodwater, was Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Radney-Smith Chapel with Bro. Phillip Alverson and Bro. Dwayne Smith officiating. Burial was in Andrews Chapel Cemetery in Hanover.

Mrs. Meeks died Sunday, November 7, 2021, at UAB Hospital. She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Unger Tucker, and grandparents, John and Mary Unger.

She is survived by her husband, Matthew Meeks; two daughters, Katie Meeks, Heidi Meeks; three sisters, Tammy Hendrick, Tabitha (Jonathan) Hyatt, Rachel (Mack) Robinson; brother, Paul (Jenny) Kimbrell; three uncles, Bill Unger, Frank Unger, Mike (Sherry) Unger; aunt, Kathleen Gooden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Mack Robinson, Jonathan Hyatt, Brody Hyatt, Randy Culver, Terry McClellan, and David Stover.

David Isaiah Sallas

 

Funeral service for Mr. David Isaiah Sallas, 93, of Rockford, Alabama, was held on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at the Union Baptist Church. Rev. Ricky Hatchett and Rev. Tommy Edmondson officiated. Burial followed in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Sallas passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at his residence. He was born on October 26, 1928, in Coosa County to John Henry Sallas and Maude Mae Thomas Sallas. He was an active member of Union Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son, Harry W. Sallas (Rosa) of Rockford; daughter, Sheila Simmons (Donald) of Sevierville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Dennise Ondina (Juan Carlos), Cynthia Gonzalez (Iker), both of Tarpon Springs, Florida, Callie Thornton (Craig) of Rockford, Rachel Simmons, Crystal Thomas (Matt), both of Sevierville, Tennessee; 9 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred Pearl Sallas; sisters, Macie Mae Hand, Addie Sallas, Maybelle Murphy, Emma Jones, Louella Baker, Mary Lowery, and Georgia B. Morris; and brothers, James Curtis Duke, Lee Sallas, Enoch Sallas, William Sallas, John Sallas, and Leonard Duke.

Betty Jean Wilson

 

Graveside service for Mrs. Betty Jean Wilson, 81, of Kellyton, was Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the Kellyton Memory Garden. Bro. Jerry Cox and Bro. Sam Kaufman officiated.

Mrs. Wilson passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021, at her residence. She was born on May 13, 1940, in Cullman to T.W. “Bill” Hanners and Lucille Richardson Hanners. Mrs. Wilson was an active member of The Church of God. She worked for Russell Corp. for 25 years and retired from the Coosa Spinning plant in 1991 at the age of 51. For the next 5 years she ran the family farm. In 1996 she went to work for Goody’s family clothing store where she worked as a manager at large for the next 12 years. She retired a second time in 2008 where she continued to work on the farm and preserved vegetables and jellies for her large family. They were her greatest love, and she was very proud of them. Mrs. Wilson was also known for her fried pies.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Phillip Larry Wilson Sr.; daughters, Lorie Anderson (Mike) of Millerville and Debbie Oliver (Myron) of Titus; sons, Phillip Wilson Jr. (Andi) of Kellyton and Tucker Wilson (Julie) of Dadeville; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna Hardman and Frances Nelson; and brother, Thomas Hanners.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Evelyn Moncrief; and brother, Talmadge Hanners.
