The critters are enjoying these wonderful and comfortable days; hopefully you are, as well. The featured pets of the week from Elmore County Humane Shelter are both just waiting for that forever family and home.
Sully is a 4-month-old male and should be in the 50 pound range when fully grown. Sully and his (look-alike) brother survived parvo, and he has been raised in a foster home along with small, medium and larger dogs. Sully is a cuddle buddy and is doggy-door trained and potty-pad trained, so most of that work is done for the new owner. He loves toys, but loves cuddling with his people the most.
Sully is hoping for a fun and active family that will love him and make him a part of all the family activities.
Peter is 6 months old and about 35 pounds or so and will not grow much larger. He is sweet, but a very busy boy and wants to please. Peter is very playful, loves toys and will do well with an active owner.
If you are interested in seeing Peter or Sully or another pet, call the shelter first to complete the application, and then they will make you an appointment to visit. Fees for dogs are still the same, $100, which includes the microchip, rabies shot, basic vaccinations, de-worming, spay/neuter, plus a free vet visit to check the dog out.
I took my Bella in for grooming this morning. She loves to ride and roll in the mud, wet or dry, so I call her my speckled belly pig pen. When we visited Bella at the shelter, she was so shy and barely moved. It has taken a few years for her to really come out of her secluded shell. Bella loves her parents and her siblings. I just could never be without a few dogs; they all have different personalities and loyalty galore.
We had a little sadness at our farm this past week; our farm cat, Winston, that we have had 17-18 years went missing. Winston was a gift from my former Red Hat member, Hilda Adams. He was a wonderful cat. I am not a cat-person, but he would make sure if I was on the front porch, he would come over to visit and often sit in my lap. Since Winston has had at least four of his nine lives, and considering his age, we expect he has gone off to be one again with nature.
The Bark in the Park at Fort Toulouse last Sunday was a fabulous success. Rea Cord, the director of the shelter in Wetumpka, sends big thanks to all that attended and especially brought their dogs for the outing.
