Following Jesus
The Bible teaches that as Jesus walked by the sea of Galilee, He said to those He met, “Follow me.”
Those He asked to follow Him left everything; they didn’t even stop to count the cost or talk it over with one another. It simply reads, “Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.”
They had given up their careers; they left behind families, homes and friends to follow Jesus. They would go with Him on a journey, uncertain as to from where their next meal would come.
That is what it means to follow Jesus. It is a drastic change of lifestyle where we seek the kingdom above all things.
In today’s time if someone stopped you on the street or by the lake and said to you “follow me,” your first response would be, where are we going, when will we be back, or do I need to take some extra clothes?
These men didn’t take a second thought; they dropped what they were doing and followed Jesus.
Today we find it very difficult to follow Jesus. We find other things that seem more important.
These men left behind all they had.
But what the Lord is saying to each of us today is not so much to leave your homes, or your friends, but He is saying to us to follow Him in the way of His teaching and in a way of His love for one another.
The Lord is saying to us to follow in ways that lead others to Him.
The disciples’ occupations were fishermen, and they knew how to catch fish.
Jesus said to them follow me; I want to teach you how to catch men.
He is not asking us to get out of our comfort zone to follow Him; He is simply telling us to follow Him and He will teach us how to catch people.
The good thing about following Jesus is that you really don’t have to leave home, friends or family to follow Him.
You can follow Him wherever you are.
All you need to do is accept Him as your personal Savior and live according to His will.
So, today following Jesus can lead you to a brand new home in glory.
