Historical Society meets Sunday
Wow! July is coming to an end. It’s been a busy month and looks to end just as busy. Everyone is trying to get in those last vacations, school shopping and other activities before settling down for school.
Summer school has finished. Teachers will have a little more time to get in their last-minute summer activities before they start back to school. Orientation for students is coming the first week of August with the first day of school being August 12.
Providence and Sardis are holding a joint Vacation Bible School at Providence. It starts Sunday, July 25, and ends on Thursday, July 29. Times are 5:30 to 8:30 each night for ages 4K through twelfth grade. If you need transportation, please call 256-935-0400. The theme is “Concrete and Cranes, where they will discover that Jesus’ love provides a foundation that lasts. They’ll learn to be wise builders who continue in what they’ve learned and firmly believe. And they will discover that He who began a good work in them will be faithful to carry it on to completion.” All are welcome!
Concord Baptist has been having its Vacation Bible School on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. instead of prayer service. So, there’s another opportunity to attend VBS.
Don’t forget Union’s Ladies Bible study of Beth Moore’s “It’s Tough Being a woman, Esther,” on Tuesday evenings at 6.
The Coosa County Historical Society meets this Sunday, July 25, at 2 p.m. at the old Crew’s Drugstore in Rockford. J.T. McDonald will be presenting information on his wife Kathy’s Indian ancestry. I encourage all to make plans to attend. You don’t have to be a member to attend, but we welcome new members. Refreshments will be provided by members.
This week one of my Facebook friends shared a link about biblical hope. The passage was I Peter 1:3-4, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.” No matter the circumstances, God promises to be with us. Nothing here on earth is everlasting; everything will eventually disappear or change. Life is short here, but we as believers have an eternal reservation in heaven that is everlasting. Often we get discouraged with events that we can’t control. We struggle with our daily encounters, allowing disappointment and troubles to bring us down. However, that is the very time we should look upward for strength to overcome these troubles. Nothing can overwhelm God! So, I encourage all to serve God to the best of our abilities, knowing that He is the only one who can save us from our struggles.
Continue to be in prayer for the sick in our community and to those that have lost loved ones. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
