Following two budget hearings this month, the Board of Education unanimously approved the Board’s budget for fiscal year 2027.
Chief School Financial Officer Cheri Wright first presented the budget during a budget hearing at a called Board meeting on September 3. The final budget hearing was held during a September 10 meeting.
At that time Wright presented the final version of the 2027 fiscal year budget and reviewed the Title I funding changes.
The presented budget was categorized into governmental and fiduciary accounting categories, reflecting revenues and expenditures for both.
Under the “general” line item, the 2027 budget reflects total revenues of $11,952,426.40 and total expenditures of $10,987,747.29.
It also reflects a total estimated beginning fund balance on October 1 of $3,964,829.30 and a projected ending fund balance on September 30 of $4,515,299.88.
However, when including the total across both accounting categories to include the fiduciary accounts, the 2027 budget reflects a total beginning balance of $5,443, 649.99 and a projected ending balance totaling $6,332,804.96.
Unlike years past, the final budget hearing did not include an overview of the school system’s average daily membership, staffing numbers and how the ADM affected the number of teaching units in the system or any changes from last year to the next fiscal year.
Following the final budget hearing and presentation, the Board unanimously approved the fiscal year 2027 budget as presented, with Board members Tiffany Thomas and Sharon Massie absent from the meeting.
No other business was conducted at the September 10 meeting, aside from approving the minutes of the September 3 called meeting.
At that meeting, in addition to the first budget hearing, the Board unanimously approved an additional service agreement with Brittany Yeargan, BCBA, LBA, to allow her to provide behavior-analytic consultation and support based on the needs of the district. It was stated that this is for the month of September 9 through October 1.
Also at the September 3 meeting, the Board unanimously approved a contract with Cameron Elliott to provide physical therapy services to students selected by the school system, effective September 3 and ending on or before September 30, 2027.
Following this month’s two called meetings for the budget hearings, the Board’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting was held yesterday afternoon. The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held at 4 p.m. October 22.
