Seven Goodwater residents arrested in narcotics bust

Seven Goodwater residents ranging in age from 21 to 62 were arrested Tuesday on multiple drug-related charges following an investigation, with warrants signed for an eighth individual and a child being removed from the environment.
On Tuesday, September 15, Sgt. Ward with the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office deployed the Clay-Coosa Narcotics Drug Task Force; which includes officers from Goodwater, Rockford, Lineville, and Ashland police departments, as well as a narcotics officer with Clay County Sheriff’s Office; to serve a narcotics search warrant on a residence in Goodwater.
Upon their arrival at the residence, entry was made by the Narcotics Drug Task Force. The house and all buildings were secured, with a total of eight adults and one juvenile being located in all the living quarters.
When the child was located, the Task Force called Coosa County Department of Human Resources, who arrived on the scene and removed the juvenile from the environment.
All eight adults were taken outside and detained while a search was conducted inside the residence. That search resulted in officers finding marijuana, methamphetamine, numerous drug paraphernalia items, and illegal prescriptions.
The Task Force placed seven of the eight individuals under arrest. Those arrested and their charges are:
- Lonnie Earl Grogan, 49, charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), second-degree possession of marijuana and use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia.
- Stormie Nichole Bobo, 38, charged with possession of a controlled substance (meth), second-degree possession of marijuana and use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia.
- Christopher Lee Mulkey, 43, charged with possession of a controlled substance (meth), first-degree possession of marijuana and use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia.
- Samantha Maggie Pitts-Sly, 47, charged with chemical endangerment of a child, second-degree possession of marijuana, use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, and illegal possession of prescription drugs.
- Chandler Grady Sly, 21, charged with chemical endangerment of a child, second-degree possession of marijuana, use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, and illegal possession of prescription drugs.
- Barbara Suzanne Butler, 62, charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia.
- Tonya Faye Brown, 45, charged with use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia.
Grogan’s total bond was set at $10,500; Bobo’s was set at $10,000; Mulkey’s was set at $12,500; Pitts-Sly’s was set at $15,500; Sly’s was set at $15,500; Butler’s was set at $5,000; and Brown’s was set at $2,500.
As of press time all seven remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail in Rockford awaiting trial.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that warrants have been signed for an eighth individual.
Hammond joined with Sheriff Michael Howell in expressing their appreciation for the hard work and diligence of the Clay-Coosa Narcotics Drug Task Force members in this case.
