Wow, has everyone noticed the leaves that have started falling. They are not turning different colors very much yet, however. Hopefully, the days will start to get a little cooler soon, signaling it’s fall.
Tonight is Homecoming for the Central Cougars! They play B.B. Comer. Come out and support them with kick-off at 7 p.m. Good luck, boys.
Richville Volunteer Fire Department thanks everyone who helped with the Boston butts in any way. Also, to those who bought them to help support the fire department. Watch for the announcement of the next Bingo, probably after football season.
Don’t forget Providence Baptist Church’s 3rd Annual Bass Tournament tomorrow! Registration in the morning begins at 4 a.m. with put in at safe daylight at Barrett’s Landing on Lake Mitchell. If you didn’t pre-register, bring cash in the morning and get registered.
Entry fee is $110 per boat which includes big fish payout. Guaranteed $1,000 first place. Payout will be 1-in-7 after 10 boats (all proceeds to be paid out in winnings). Weigh-in is at 2 p.m. Call Wayne Ward at 334-467-7660 with any questions.
Then, this Sunday night at 6, Providence Baptist Church begins its revival with Rev. Rob Jackson as evangelist. He is director of the Office of Evangelism & Church Health with the Alabama State Board of Missions. It will continue Monday–Wednesday nights beginning at 6:30.
On Wednesday night after services, finger foods and homemade ice cream will be served in the fellowship hall. All are welcome.
The Coosa County Historical Society will have its regular quarterly meeting on Sunday, October 25, at the Rockford Senior Center at 2 p.m. This will be a “Show and Tell” so bring your interesting artifacts to show. So, mark your calendars.
Also, don’t forget the Old Rock Jail is back open on Sundays from 2 to 4. Admission is $3! It will close for the season at the end of October.
My Bible verses this week are about the purpose of life in the Bible. As Christians, our lives are to glorify God, love Him and serve others. Colossians 3:23-24 reads, “Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ.”
These verses teach Christians that everything they do should be as if they are serving Jesus Christ, not human masters. Our work shouldn’t be contingent upon earthly pay or reward, but offer a service to God.
We represent God to the world; therefore we should conduct ourselves accordingly. There’s a saying that expresses this. “You might be the only Bible someone ever knows!”
In other words, you represent God’s Word in your daily life. However, we are only human and make mistakes, but the world only sees us as representing Christ.
Therefore, we should try our best to live lives that are examples for others to see. So, no matter what the task, do it to the best of your ability.
Pray for those that have lost loved ones in our community or that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
