A Georgia woman was arrested on drug-related charges following a traffic stop in Coosa County.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that on August 8, Deputy Brown was patrolling U.S. Highway 231 when he observed a vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed and conducted a traffic stop.
While approaching the vehicle he observed that there were three people inside and also smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. All three individuals were asked to step out of the vehicle and were identified.
An individual who had been sitting in the backseat advised that she had a jar of marijuana in her bag, which was retrieved.
Hammond stated that Brown searched the vehicle and found a second jar of a green leafy substance in the same bag. Hammond reported that he also found a THC vape pen and eight different brown, burned, rolled marijuana cigarettes in the vehicle.
One of the three individuals claimed possession of all drugs.
As such, 25-year-old Leilani Amara Franklin of Union City, Ga., was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and second-degree possession of marijuana.
Franklin’s total bond was set at $7,500. She was released on bond on August 9 to await trial.
