School has officially started! Please be in prayer for teachers, staff and students to have a great year.
Because of the hot weather, the school is asking for donations of bottled water for the afternoon rides on the buses. It can be dropped off at either school. Also, they will take monetary donations to go toward purchasing the water.
Don’t forget the Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo on August 22 starting at 6:30 p.m. Also, this is the last Bingo until after football season, so make your plans to be there. They serve concessions, also, and usually have a cake or two to auction off.
Also, it’s time to get your name on the list for those delicious Boston Butts for $35 each. Pickup will be Saturday morning, September 5, from 7 to 9. See any member of the fire department to place your order or contact me and I will see that you are added to the list.
Providence Baptist Church had a great turnout for their back-to-school bash even with the change in time. They were able to play on the water slide until time to eat. Hot dogs, chips and homemade ice cream were served to all, with several getting second and third helpings. I guess all that playing on the water slide worked up an appetite! There were several that got haircuts to be ready for school. Then when time to leave backpacks with school supplies were given out to all.
Don’t forget that Union Baptist Church will have homecoming on Sunday, August 16, starting at 10:30 a.m. Chris Crumbley will bring the message, and David Vick will provide the special music. Following the service, there will be a potluck lunch in the fellowship hall. All are invited.
This week my Bible verse is about bullying. The word “bullying” does not appear in the Bible. However, the Bible does address cruel behavior and unkind words. I Peter 3:9 reads, “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.”
We as Christians should not seek revenge or fight back when people hurt or insult us, but respond with kindness and a blessing. This is following the example that Jesus set for us. However, that’s easy to say, but hard to follow.
Human nature is to respond with the same, but Jesus teaches to turn the other cheek! By responding to hostility with kindness or a good action that breaks the cycle of anger. It is a real struggle in the real world to show a different attitude than those around us.
Our faith often leads to a struggle to do the “right” thing. The Bible teaches us to love our enemies and to do good to those who wrong us. So, show mercy and kindness to those that treat us badly to demonstrate God’s love.
Pray for others that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
