Joe O’Neal Chastain

 

Funeral service for Mr. Joe O’Neal Chastain, 68, of Goodwater, will be Friday, June 26, 2026, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Russell DeLee will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bradford Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 26, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.

Mr. Chastain passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at his residence. He was born on October 25, 1957, in Alexander City to Clarence Chastain and Shirley Joyce Dennis Chastain.

He is survived by his sister, Michelle Shaw; nephew, Jason Dunham; great-niece, Emma Wilhite; great-nephew, Riley Wilhite; cousins, Tony (Lou Ann) Turner, Bonny (Harry) Mann, Josie Forbus, Barry (Robyn) Mann, Brandon (Beth) Turner, Alex (Joni) Turner, and April Turner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Melanie Wilhite.

James Thomas Cullins Jr.

 

Funeral service for Minister James Thomas Cullins Jr., 96, of Alexander City, was Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Alexander City Church of Christ. Dr. Don Kelly, Rev. Rod Siggers, and Minister Chris Tidwell officiated.

Minister Cullins passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home. He was born on February 26, 1930, in Sylacauga to James Thomas Cullins Sr. and Hattie Jones Cullins. James proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

After coming home he received his Associates Degree in Biblical Studies from Freed Hardeman College and his Masters Degree in Biblical Studies from Southern Christian University. He worked as a full-time or part-time minister for the last 75 years, with 28 of them being at The Alexander City Church of Christ. While ministering there he also fulfilled two years of missionary work in Frankfurt, Germany, beginning in 1972. He also served as minister to Bethany Church for 12 years.

James was instrumental in the planning and construction of three buildings on Tallapoosa Street; The Alexander City Church of Christ, the adjacent children’s home, and the Hillabee Towers complex.

He was elected to the State Legislature in 1989 and served for four years as the State Representative from Tallapoosa County.

James proudly served as minister for the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home for 15 years. There was always a special place in his heart for veterans and volunteers.

He was a proud shepherd of God for all denominations. He always said, “My prayer and commitment to God is: to preach for the rest of my life.”

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay Cullins of Alexander City; step-sisters, Rachel Baker of Kellyton, Polly Rainwater of Newnan, Ga., Joyce Pardo of Alexander City, and Linda (Wayne) Railey of Alexander City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gladys Spates and Dovie Wallar; brothers, Wallace Cullins and Claude Cullins.
