A high-speed chase resulted in one local arrest and another individual being detained for another agency.
According to Chief Deputy Scott Hammond, on April 14 while on routine patrol on U.S. Highway 280, Deputy Brown observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.
Brown turned around and initiated his lights to conduct a traffic stop. He made the stop and made contact with the driver to explain the reason he was stopped.
While Brown was writing a citation, the vehicle sped off. Brown relayed to dispatch that he was in a high-speed chase.
Other deputies were out in the county, and they were advised that Sgt. Ward and Deputy Kelley had deployed spike strips.
Deputies Kelley and Parker were in pursuit, along with Ward and Brown during the chase. The fleeing vehicle had run over the spikes, had four flat tires and was riding on its rims.
The vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Highway 280 and County Road 49, at which point the driver fled on foot. Kelley chased the driver on foot and eventually caught him.
A passenger remained in the vehicle and was detained on scene for outstanding warrants in another county.
The driver, 22-year-old Brodie Jackson of Oneonta, was arrested and charged with attempting to elude law enforcement and reckless endangerment.
His bond was set at $17,500, and as of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
