Dear Editor,
It has been my honor to write a column in “The Coosa County News” for over 10 years. I have shared approximately 4,800 of “My Humble Opinions” over the course of this time. But I have now decided it is time for me to step away from this commitment to make time for other projects I have neglected.
I have tried to share information I felt was important for people to hear about, understand better and possibly open minds. I understand that “The Coosa County News” is provided as a local means of sharing news and, when I started writing, I was allowed to write about local, state, national, and world news issues. That has changed, and I am now limited to local or state news. I have no problem with writing about local issues, but there just aren’t many of those and I have found lately that not many people still subscribe to the paper any longer. When I have asked people their opinions about several of what I thought were important topics I have been told the majority do not read the paper – and quite a few of these people work within government/elected office areas.
For quite a few years, when I have mentioned an event that was talked about in the paper or even promoted with a paid advertisement, some people would respond with “I wish I’d known about that!” I would tell them if they would just take the paper or pick one up they would know what was going on.
I want to thank all of you who have read my columns, have thanked me for them and have supported me. Even those of you who didn’t necessarily agree with me, thank you. And I certainly thank Lewis Scarbrough for this amazing opportunity he gave me so many years ago.
After taking a break, I may consider a different avenue to communicate my opinions on all topics that I find interesting and/or news worthy.
God bless you all!
