The Coosa County Courthouse and county offices will be closing at 12 p.m. today, February 6, to allow employees the opportunity to attend District 4 County Commissioner Ronnie Joiner’s visitation and funeral.
The County Commission held an emergency called meeting yesterday afternoon to vote on the matter. With commissioners Brandon Davis, John Forbus and Lamar Daugherty present, the Commission unanimously approved and adopted a resolution stating that the courthouse and other county offices will close at 12 p.m. February 6.
The resolution is pursuant to Section 11-1-8 of the Code of Alabama, which reads that the Commission can close the courthouse and county offices “for special circumstances deemed necessary or appropriate.”
In part, the resolution reads, “Whereas, the Commissioner for District 4, Ronnie D. Joiner, passed away on February 2, 2026, and his visitation and funeral services are set for February 6, 2026, beginning at 12 noon; and whereas, many county employees have expressed their desire to attend Commissioner Joiner’s visitation and funeral services; and whereas, the Commission finds that it is appropriate to close the Courthouse and county offices to allow for the Commissioner’s many friends and coworkers to attend his services; now, therefore, be it resolved, that the Coosa County Courthouse and county offices shall be closed at 12 noon on February 6, 2026, to allow all county employees to attend the funeral services for District 4 Commissioner Ronnie D. Joiner as they may desire.”
The resolution further reads that any deadline that cannot be timely met because of the closing of the courthouse and county offices will be extended to the date the office is reopened, which will be Monday.
The regularly scheduled monthly County Commission meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
