Johnnie Schmidt
Special to the News
I am Johnnie Schmidt, candidate for Coosa County Commission District 4.
I have lived in Rockford since 1980, except for a few years after high school. Speaking of high school, I graduated from Coosa County High School in 1982, where I met my wife, Robin Shaw Schmidt. We have been married since 1986 and have two grown children along with their spouses, with our first grandchild on the way.
I have had a full-time job since I was 12 years old. Those jobs included everything from restaurants, retail, construction, textiles, on up to my last place of employment, which was 31 years of service to Central Alabama Electric Cooperative.
I’ve always been involved in the community one way or another from volunteer firefighter, baseball and football coach (25 years), and Neighborhood Watch (current president). I have been an active member of Concord Baptist Church since 1996 and hold several positions there.
I say all that to tell you that I have worked hard all my life and will not stop now if elected. I know with your support and input, we can make a difference in District 4 and Coosa County as a whole.
Working together with the other commissioners with common goals and common sense, we can accomplish much.
If elected, in the first year of the term I will focus on public safety, including areas like our schools’ security, the Sheriff’s Office being properly funded and our ambulance service continuing to serve the county, as well as maintenance of the county right of ways and shoulders, while keeping a balanced budget.
While working in these areas, I will search for every available grant and funding available to Coosa County, whether it be from the State of Alabama or federal resources.
On May 19, 2026, go to your poll sites and let your voice and your choice be heard with your ballot sheet and your vote. Together we can make a difference.
God bless you all!
