Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Winter is definitely here as of this week. I finally had to turn on the heater in my pumphouse, as well as leave water dripping.
From the forecast for next week, it’s not a lot better. However, while we had no snow or ice at my house, many people had to deal with both, as well as no power. I recently bought a generator, laughingly told the guys loading in my car that I was guaranteeing that I didn’t lose power!
Hard to believe that this is the end of January, one month done for the year. I have been extremely slow getting my Christmas decorations packed up and stored away, but they are finally put up.
Last year this time, I was in California staying with my granddaughter that just had a baby while her Marine husband was deployed in Japan. She just celebrated her first birthday, and now they live in North Carolina where he is stationed at Camp Lajeune.
While she won’t remember much of her California days or weather, her mom and dad have definitely had to adjust to the cold weather.
The first 2026 bingo at Richville Volunteer Fire Department was a great success with a good turnout. The next bingo will be on Saturday, February 21, at 6:30 p.m. So come out and support your fire department and have fun doing it. They will also have concessions.
Well, it’s that time of year, tax season. We will be taking drop-offs and pick-ups at the fellowship hall of Rockford Methodist Church beginning this Wednesday, February 4. We will be there every Wednesday with April 8 being the last day for pick-ups. We will only take drop-offs that day if you can pick-up in the Alexander City office.
My Bible verses for this week are from Ephesians 2:8-9 which reads, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Powerful words! We need to examine any teachings that tell you that works will get you into heaven. We do the work because we have faith first, not the other way around.
God gave us the greatest gift of all when He sent His Son to die on the cross for us. But we have to make that decision to trust in God and believe that Jesus is our Savior. Once we do that, our outlook and attitude should change, reflecting on us as a different person.
While we don’t change physically, our mindset does change. It’s not a question of which comes first, the chicken or the egg. Faith must come first, not works.
You can be the most generous caring person in the world, but without belief in Jesus, you’re bound for hell. Doing good toward others only counts after you have God’s salvation.
Be in prayer for those that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits also, even if it’s just a phone call.
