Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Well, winter is here! Temperatures next week are going to be cold, so get ready to bundle up. We have been spoiled by all the warm days or at least not freezing.
The first 2026 bingo at Richville Volunteer Fire Department was a great success. We had a good turnout. There was a lot of laughs and fun.
The next Bingo will be on Saturday, February 21, at 6:30 p.m. So come out and support your fire department and have fun doing it. They will also have concessions.
Please note that the Coosa County Historical Society quarterly meeting will still be held on Sunday, January 25, at 2 p.m., but will be at the “old Rockford school” located on County Road 18. From the 4-way stop at the intersection of highways 231 and 22 go south on 231, and at Triple R Cafe turn left next to the health department building. The old elementary school is located on the left.
We have a special guest speaker, Chip Gates, historian of the Lake Mitchell HOBO Association. He will be discussing Native American history in western Coosa County, the history of Fixico Creek and the Fixico mines, the history of Little Joe’s Fish Camp, as well as the community of Dollar which is now covered by Lake Mitchell.
He will share stories, photos and a few mementos during his program. So, make plans to attend. You don’t have to be a member, and the public is invited. Refreshments will be served.
My Bible verse for this week is another personal favorite, James 1:22. It reads, “But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” James is a practical book of the Bible. In this verse, he urges people to not just listen to God’s Word, but to put it in action.
This verse stresses the need to act on what we hear. We are not supposed to just attend church on Sundays, then do nothing during the week about spreading the Good News about Jesus.
If you read the next few verses, James gives us a negative and a positive example. Let’s not be the negative one who just listens without real faith, but follow the positive example by taking God’s Word into our heart and let it change our lives. We need to be an active listener that learns from God’s message and then acts on it.
Be in prayer for those that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
