Christmas in the Grove, hosted by the J. D. Thompson Alumni and Hwy. 22 East Podcast, was held on December 14.
The event’s theme was “Old Fashion Country Christmas in the Grove,” a remembrance of past Christmases with family and friends. Master of Ceremony Jermaine Maxwell and Demetrius Hoyett did an outstanding job with their most memorable Christmases.
The youth in attendance presented beautiful coloring sheets with Jesus in a manger. Those in attendance had lots of fun, touring the historic building, socializing and enjoying hot chili, sweet potatoes, cornbread, butter cookies, cake, and roasted peanuts.
The afternoon ended with the crowning of Mrs. Lillian Mitchell Leonard as School Queen as her family and the audience cheered.
Mrs. Leonard, age 92, a graduate of Coosa County Training School, was crowned Queen in her high school days. Mrs. Leonard is the oldest living school queen that we are aware of.
The Alumni President JoEtta Maxwell, and the Alumni members, would like to thank everyone that attended and helped make this event a success. The Christmas event is our way of giving back to the community for all of their support in 2025.
