The Buzz
Buzzy the Buzzard
Hi! I hope everyone has had enough fun, food, family, and football. Let’s get the New Year rolling.
I started with reading today’s (January 2) paper, and there are a few things to which I want to respond.
First, I was excited to read about the upcoming elections until I got stuck thinking about the influence of the political parties. Candidates must qualify to a party. Parties run individual, concurrent primaries.
Only candidates that win primaries go on to the general election. State offices are run by state party organizations, and local offices are run by local party organizations. What in the heck does party affiliation have to do with being a good commissioner, BOE member, or coroner? How are the local party organizations relevant? Maybe this is a question local folks should be asking out loud.
Second, I was sad for Sean of the South. I don’t dispute his research and stated figures. But, Sean, rest assured that newspapers still exist; we send you the News every week. Rest assured that there still are people that read…you know, people that did not grow up with smartphones. You may call us older Americans, but don’t underestimate us.
And about your negative response on social media? You had seven million views! Negatives are more likely to speak up than positives. Consider that criticism, labeling and bullying are in style right now, but they do not have to be forever.
Let’s make 2026 the year of kindness. I’ll be watching.
Buzzy
