Laurel R. Hendrix
Funeral service for Mrs. Laurel R. Hendrix, 86, of Alexander City, was Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Bro. Eric Hendrix and Bro. Brandon Keel officiated. Burial followed in the Hillview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Laurel Robinson Hendrix, a beacon of love and faith, left this world on November 30, 2025, at the age of 86, after a life rich in family and faith. Born on May 17, 1939, to Joseph Chandler Robinson and Mamie Kate Cushing Robinson, Laurel’s life was a tapestry woven with passion for her interests and love for her family.
Laurel was a Christian who lived her beliefs through every action and word. Her steadfast faith was evident to all who knew her as she served eagerly in the ABM Prayer Band and as a devoted member of The Church of God at Goodwater. Her dedication to her faith and community was demonstrated by her ownership of Midtown Fabrics and Crafts for 25 years. Prior to this, she contributed her talents to the Russell Corp. for 16 years, where she was respected for her work ethic.
Beyond her professional and spiritual life, Laurel was an embodiment of creativity and nurturing. Her hands, always busy, worked with fabric and thread, creating quilts and other crafts. Her love for sewing and crafting was only rivaled by her passion for gardening and yard work, where she found peace and joy in the simple act of nurturing growth. The fruits of her labor were shared generously, as she loved canning vegetables, a testament to her self-sufficiency and love for providing for others.
Laurel’s most cherished moments were spent with the pages of her Bible turned gently in her hands, drawing strength and inspiration from the scriptures she so loved reading. She was a woman of unwavering faith, her life a living sermon of the values she held dear.
Her legacy of love and passion lives on through her family. Laurel is survived by her son, Gary L. (Linda) Hendrix of Alexander City; daughter, Gaylon Hendrix (Jason) Buivids of Jacksons Gap; grandchildren, Steven (Tara) Hendrix, Eric (Taylor) Hendrix, Wesley (Paige) Hendrix, Adam (Michelle) Hendrix, Amanda (Spencer) MaGill, Lauren Henderson, and Erika Buivids; great-grandchildren, Alex (Cheyenne) Ray, Cole Hendrix, Ethan Hendrix, Logan Hendrix, Dylan Hendrix, Raelynn Hendrix, Stella Pazsak, Bo Buivids, Holden Coggins, Sky Hendrix, Julietta Hendrix, and Walter MaGill; and a great-great-grandchild, Grady Ray. She also leaves behind her sister, Dessa Mallory, who, along with the rest of the family, will miss her profoundly.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Raymond L. Hendrix; her son, Glenn Hendrix; her parents, Joseph Chandler Robinson and Mamie Kate Robinson; and her siblings, Delilah Smith, Timmons Robinson, Willard Robinson, Julious Robinson, Nellie Ransome, Ruthie Guy, Jean Yarbrough, J.C. Robinson, Jimmy Robinson, and James Wessie Robinson.
Laurel Robinson Hendrix will be remembered as a faith-filled, passionate, and loving woman whose influence and spirit will continue to be felt by all who were blessed to know her. Her life was a testament to the enduring power of love and faith, and her memory will be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

Mildred “Millie” Hazel Prophitt
Funeral service for Mrs. Mildred “Millie” Hazel Prophitt, 82, of Alexander City, was Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Alex City Methodist Church. Rev. Wayne Cowhick officiated. Burial followed in the Hillview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Prophitt passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 26, 2025, at the age of 82 in Alexander City. Born on June 5, 1943, in Hackneyville to William Samuel Harrell and Elsie Odell Sherrer Harrell, Millie’s life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, friends, and community.
Millie’s warmth and generosity knew no bounds. She was a beacon of joy and kindness, touching the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her involvement with the Red Hat Society in Alexander City was a testament to her love for camaraderie and celebration of life. Millie’s presence was a source of laughter and delight at their gatherings, and her absence will be deeply felt by her fellow members.
For many years, Millie worked at Mother Goose, where her famous cowboy stew became a beloved staple. Her culinary skills were only matched by her ability to bring people together, creating an atmosphere of warmth and welcome that extended far beyond the kitchen.
A woman of many talents, Millie found solace and joy in her hobbies. Her hands were rarely still, as she created beautiful pieces of cross-stitched and crocheted pieces that were not only works of art, but also expressions of her love and care. Her passion for Christmas was infectious, and her decorations and spirit were a highlight of the season for her family and friends.
Millie’s weekly card and domino games with her special group of friends were a source of laughter and companionship. These cherished moments will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by her close-knit circle.
Above all, Millie was a proud wife and mother to three veterans, instilling in her family the values of service, dedication, and love of country. Her unwavering support and pride in their accomplishments were a cornerstone of her life.
As a dedicated member of Alex City Methodist Church, Millie’s faith was a guiding light. Her commitment to her church community was evident in her actions and the love she shared with those around her.
Millie’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and selfless service. Her memory will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we bid farewell to Mrs. Mildred “Millie” Harrell Prophitt, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that will continue to inspire kindness and joy in all of us. Her spirit will forever be a cherished memory in Alexander City and beyond.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Emilly Prophitt (Curtis) Smith of Alexander City, Ferris Prophitt (Brian) Voss of Hanover, and Alanna Prophitt (Tyler) Stancil of Anniston; great-grandchildren, Caroline Smith and Easton Voss; brother, William (Christine) Harrell Jr.; daughter-in-law, Johnnie Prophitt; nephew, Eric (Roulain) Harrell; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elwin Trollis Prophitt; sons, Michael Trollis Prophitt and Mark Elwin Prophitt; sister, Lucy Browning; brothers, Ronnie Harrell, Ricky Harrell, and Eddie Harrell.
