Reports of damage at the grounds of the historic Holly Springs Church ultimately led to the arrest of a Sylacauga man on multiple drug-related charges.

Last Friday deputies responded to the Holly Springs Church grounds because of calls stating people were trespassing and causing damage to the church grounds.

After deputies conducted an extensive search, the caller took the deputies to where two white males had wrecked a side-by-side vehicle. While investigating the wrecked scene, deputies found a mobile phone.

While law enforcement officers were observing the scene, two white males drove up and told Sheriff Michael Howell that they were looking for a lost cell phone.

The two males were caught on camera and matched the descriptions of the suspects damaging the grounds at the church.

When deputies approached the vehicle, they detected the odor of marijuana. A search was conducted, which resulted in numerous illegal drugs being found.

Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that 39-year-old Travis Chet Green of Sylacauga was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of amphetamine (Adderall), possession of clonazepam, second-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and public intoxication.

The second individual was not arrested on any charges and was released.

Green’s total bond for all six charges was set at $20,500. He was released on bond the same day to await trial.

Anyone who observes or suspects illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
