Leon “Lee” Albert Armbrester

 

Leon began his trip to Glory Sept. 18, 2025, at 11:29 a.m. after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Pat) Armbrester; son, Leon A. Armbrester Jr. (Dawn and daughter Jenna); daughter, Victoria Armbrester Parks (Ken Parks, daughter Sophia and son Paxton); stepsons, Richard Varner (Tammy, sons Josiah and Jeremiah), David Varner (Albinka, sons John and Joe); stepdaughter, Sandra K. Varner (daughter Brittany Crowe [children Malachi, Mahzi and Cardiair] and son Colton Crowe); brother, Robert Armbrester (Kathy); and two sisters, Edna Green and Betty Mayfield; and sister-in-law, Betty Armbrester.

Leon’s life included being a great athlete with a full scholarship at University of Georgia for football which led to his being in Ga. Dawgs Hall of Fame. He was a Captain in the Air Force, executive with GTE and owner and broker of two VR Business Brokers companies – Jacksonville, Fla., and Tampa, Fla. For the past 21 years he made his home in Rockford (Mt. Moriah) with his wife, Pat, of 32 years, 9 months and 18 days.

Leon was a wonderful husband and Christian man which was his greatest achievement. He loved Father God and Jesus and he loved helping everyone. He was a teacher to all the children and led by example. He will be sorely missed.

A celebration of his life was held October 3, 2025, at Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

 

Norma Jean Futral Bailey

 

Graveside service for Mrs. Norma Jean Futral Bailey, 75, of Alexander City, will be Friday, October 3, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Hackneyville Cemetery.

Mrs. Bailey passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at her residence. She was born on July 9, 1950, in Goodwater to William Adrian Futral and Charlotte Adelade Selbe Futral. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, tending to her flowers, and most of all, caring for others. She worked for Walmart for 20-plus years.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Earl Bailey; son, James Earl “Jamie” Bailey; grandchildren, Nicole (Tonya) Peters, Rusty (Nicolette) Peters, Hunter Peters, Clayton Bailey, and Jordan Bailey; several great-grandchildren; brother, Eddie (Pat) Futral; and sister, Cynthia (Jimmy) Lashley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Christina “Christy” Bailey Peters; sisters, Betty Sue Bishop and Donna Fuller; and brother, Robert Futral.
