A Coosa County woman was arrested last Wednesday on chemical endangerment charges relating to two children in her home.
On August 14, Investigator Ward was dispatched for an issue at the school about a child possibly being exposed to a controlled substance.
Upon arriving at the school, Ward contacted the Coosa County Department of Human Resources, and an investigation was conducted. DHR placed the children under a safety plan and conducted hair follicle tests on the two children in the household and the mother.
On August 26, Ward was contacted by DHR with those test results, and both children from the household tested positive for methamphetamines.
One child tested at 1,719 pg/mg while the second child tested at 5,424 pg/mg. The mother, Jodie Leigh Gonzalez, tested at 9,464 pg/mg.
Gonzalez, 44 years old of the Sylacauga area of Coosa County, was arrested the following day and charged with two counts of chemical endangerment of a child.
Her total bond for both charges was set at $25,000. As of press time she remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
Anyone who observes or suspects illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
