In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
I understand that criminals of all types, sizes, races, genders, juveniles, and elders would rather have no law enforcement, jails, prisons, or courts. They do not follow the law, couldn’t care less about the law except to break it! I used to think that criminals were a very small minority within our country, but I think I may be changing my mind. But am I alone?
Crime is out of control in almost every large city and is now spreading into the rural areas faster than you can blink an eye. But instead of the victims of crime being cared for, the criminals themselves are getting the good side of enforcement.
One of our political parties is doing its best to eliminate law enforcement, arrests, imprisonment, and punishment. And I just don’t understand why. Do the people who align with that party not care about the crime in their areas? Do they support the stand their party is taking? Do they REALLY believe that crime is under control?
Protection from crime should be one of the most important benefits of being an American citizen. And we should be able to rely on our law enforcement agencies to arrest, charge and prosecute the people who are committing the crimes.
Unfortunately, our law enforcement agencies are getting less and less support from politicians and the justice systems. Many cities have NO bail – get arrested, fill out forms and go home before the police/deputies have completed their paperwork! And many of these criminals are already out waiting on trials for other crimes they have committed over and over! At what point is enough enough?
Washington, D.C., had been one of the most crime-ridden areas in the country until President Trump stepped in. The local police were unable to do their jobs because of limitations placed on them. It was a catch-and-release situation they had to follow whether they liked it or not.
But when the National Guard showed up those same officers were able to join with them and clean up the streets. Most of the people in Washington, D.C., are very grateful for this assistance. But the politicians are seeing it as an invasion by the federal government and say it was unnecessary.
Even worse, many of these criminals were under 18 and were not even charged or prosecuted because of their age. They were committing robberies, car-jackings, murder, assaults – anything and everything. Little Johnny was just having fun – what is the problem? When parents can’t control their children it is time for law enforcement to step in and ENFORCE the law!
The turnaround in Washington, D.C., is so successful that the president is considering doing the same thing in other cities where crime is not being controlled. But the leaders in those states and cities say it “isn’t necessary or needed.”
Are they wearing blinders and ear plugs? Do they not care about the citizens they supposedly represent and serve?
While there is crime most of it appears to be the worst in areas of low-income people with little to no voice. They are stuck – they can’t afford to move like people in more affluent areas.
Isn’t there a law against this? Probably so, but it is not being enforced either by the law enforcement agencies themselves or the judicial system that should be determining the punishment.
I am in no way complaining or calling out the law enforcement officers themselves. I am calling out the elected officials who determine which laws are enforced and which aren’t. I am calling out the leaders who are being controlled by the politicians to stop the law “enforcers” from doing their jobs.
I know many people in different areas of law enforcement, and the great majority of them joined a force to help people, protect them from crime and to arrest criminals. They are frustrated because they cannot do their jobs. They are frustrated because of all the calls to defund police.
These people are not paid well to start with! They put their lives on the line every day of their lives to protect us, to provide us a safe and secure place to live.
It’s time that the “Defund Police” party members wake up and realize what is really going on. Do you yourself not deserve to live in peace and safety from crime? What about your family members?
We have seen way too many law enforcement officers killed while trying to protect the citizens they have sworn to be available to. What about their families? I even wonder why anyone would want to go into that line of work any more because it seems to be so UNAPPRECIATED.
So, next year candidates for governors, senators, representatives, sheriffs, district attorneys, and judges are running for office. Ask questions about where they stand on law enforcement – and DON’T JUST TAKE THEIR WORD FOR IT. Do some research; pay attention to how many arrests and releases are happening in your area.
Pay attention to how many criminals actually go to trial so their peers determine their punishment instead of the judicial system. “If you do the crime, you should do the time.”
Please give very deep thought to how you feel about this. Are you for or against criminals? Are you for or against law enforcement? Are you for or against your very own safety? It’s up to YOU to decide which way our country goes in the future.
