Wow! This is Labor Day weekend which used to signal the end of summer and start of school.
However, now they have been in school for almost four weeks. This year Labor Day is the earliest it can be as the first Monday of September.
It became an official federal holiday in 1894 celebrating the works and achievements of the laborers in developing the United States and unofficially became the end of summer. Today, it is celebrated with BBQ and parades.
Don’t forget to pick up your Boston Butt you ordered from the Richville Volunteer Fire Department tomorrow morning between 7 and 9 a.m. They are $35.
Next weekend, Providence Baptist Church will host our 2nd Annual Fishing Tournament on Saturday, September 6, at Barretts on Lake Mitchell. Registration is $110 which includes big fish. Guaranteed First Place is $1,000.
To pre-register contact Wayne Ward at 334-467-7660. You can also register the day of the tournament with cash only. Launch will be safe daylight with weigh-in at 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
Then beginning Sunday morning, September 7, Providence Baptist Church will begin revival. The evangelist will be Bro. Tony Christianson.
Services on Sunday will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday services will start at 6:30 p.m. On Sunday following morning services, there will be a fellowship meal. All are invited.
My Bible verses this week are the last about anxiety. It seems our daily lives become more hectic and stressful as time passes. We have so many more conveniences than when I was growing up, but everyone seems to be busier than ever, leading to more stress.
Hebrews 13:5-6 reads, “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’’
To live free from love of money is not to never dream or seek something better than what we have, but to not put our wants ahead of our needs. People confuse wants and needs to the point that we are never satisfied.
It’s okay to strive for accomplishments and our wants; we just don’t need to put them ahead of God. Without dreams, our country wouldn’t exist today. We should always seek God’s will in what we do, asking for His guidance.
Most of our wants today are selfish, not because we want to better serve God and promote His love, but are for personal reasons. So, try to remember to seek God’s guidance first in what we want to accomplish.
Be in prayer for the ones that have lost a loved one and that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
