Employees and officials in Coosa County have again received statewide recognition for their special efforts to improve safety and reduce accidents in the workplace.
During National Safety Month, county officials and employees engaged county departments by conducting weekly safety-related activities, including programs to encourage seatbelt use, machine guard safety, heavy equipment safety reviews, slip/trip/fall audits, and emergency vehicle safety audits.
This month-long initiative was established by County Risk Services (CRS), the Montgomery-based organization working hand-in-hand with Alabama’s county governments as a partner with the Association of County Commissions of Alabama (ACCA).
In recognition of their achievements, the county will receive a complimentary breakfast funded by CRS in the coming weeks.
“Far too often, we overlook the commitment of the employees and leaders in county government,” said Sonny Brasfield, ACCA executive director. “I am so proud of Coosa County for its emphasis on workplace safety. The idea of protecting the health of your workers may not be something that grabs headlines, but focusing on safety means more workers return home to their families at night. And that’s an investment that can make all of us proud.”
Coosa County is an active participant in the Association’s self-funded insurance programs, designed to allow county commissions to pool their resources and expertise to provide savings to the taxpayers.
A total of 61 counties and many other entities are part of the workers’ compensation program, 59 counties participate in the liability program, and some 42 counties are participants in the property insurance pool.
