Special to the News
Local residents are enjoying fresh squash, peas, beans, okra, tomatoes, corn, and other home-grown vegetables, thanks to the RC&D Plus Partners Outreach workshop held earlier this year on March 27.
The workshop was held at the J. D. Thompson Alumni Association building located in the Cottage Grove community.
The Coosa Valley Resource Conservation and Development Council plus partners came prepared with helpful information that everyone in attendance could use.
Braxton Lashley spoke on forest development, Janice Kilgore spoke on tornado safety, Rev. and Mrs. David Benton discussed cancer prevention, and Elijah Moore spoke on gardening.
There was a total of 33 people in attendance, representing the community and other local counties. The speakers provided handouts on the topics discussed and informed the attendees about other topics that are available.
RC&D provided vegetable seeds and fertilizer to all participants, and gardeners and farmers are now enjoying the homegrown vegetables they produced. Several farmers shared their vegetables with friends and family in the community. The children in attendance enjoyed the coloring books provided by Mr. Elijah Moore.
The J. D. Thompson Alumni Association would like to thank Mr. Elijah Moore, outreach workshop coordinator of Coosa Valley RC&D Council, for an outstanding meeting.
