The world can be a cold, dark place without genuine love.
As the Bible states, the love of money is the root of all evil. When riches become the driving force in someone’s life, it usually doesn’t matter who gets stepped on, or even crushed.
A desire for promotion and elevation to prominence can lead to the same type of scenarios.
In several biblical examples, people were basically used for monetary gain. Those examples reveal how low humanity can sink at times.
It’s all about what someone can get at another’s expense.
It also shows a lack of care and concern for other humans. In the world, people will use others for gain.
It is a sad situation – especially considering it leaves God out of the equation.
When God gets into the mix, things change for the good. Greed begins to dissipate.
Is God in the middle of our relationships today? When the Lord dwells in the center of our lives, He has a way of making it work successfully and joyfully.
Those relationships could be with spouses, children, parents, friends, and others.
There is no substitute for the fruit of the Spirit operating in our lives. That fruit works every time!
But there are examples where God was void from lives, and it was very evident in actions.
In Acts 16, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met Paul and the others as they prayed. This damsel brought her masters much gain by soothsaying – or telling the future.
Eventually, Paul commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the woman in Jesus’ name. The spirit came out of her that same hour.
Then the persecution came. The masters were fuming that the woman had been delivered of the unclean spirit. Why? It was because the hope of their gain flew the coop when the demonic spirit came out of the woman.
That’s a sad and demented attitude. The masters didn’t care anything about the damsel. All they were concerned about was the monetary gain they received from her divination.
In reality, they should’ve been glad that the evil spirit that tormented the woman was now gone.
They probably treated her very well when she brought them wealth. But they likely threw her to the curb when the gain was gone. They were basically using this poor, demon-possessed damsel because of what she could do for them.
How awful is that?
That’s the way this world can be. Dark and cold. It was all about the money. The Bible states that because iniquity abounds, the love of many shall wax cold.
The good news, however, is that God’s true and genuine love is available to all. His love also works through those who have been born again and are following Jesus.
That’s the way it should be. God and His people are concerned about the welfare of souls and displaying love and care for lost humanity.
It is more blessed to give than to receive. He that is greatest among you is the one who serves.
Remember the Prodigal Son who desired and received his inheritance from his father? He received it, but blew it on riotous living. While the money was there, those who were seemingly friends were right by his side.
But what happened when he wasted all the money and there was nothing left? Where were his so-called friends at that point?
They were out of his life. God yearns for us to receive His love. He is the opposite of the ways of this wicked and sin-infested world.
There is no greater love that a man can have than to lay down his life for his friends. That is true love.
When the religious leaders caught the woman in the very act of adultery, they wanted to see her stoned to death. They didn’t care at all about her.
But Jesus pointed out humanity’s sin and asked the woman where her accusers went. There were none righteous remaining to accuse her, but Jesus.
Of course, Jesus said He didn’t condemn her, and for her to go and sin no more.
Thank you, God, that Your love, mercy and grace are available to us in this world.
