Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I hope everyone enjoyed their celebration of our country’s independence this past week. I know there were some mishaps and injuries on the lake and am praying for all those involved.
I hope there were lots of good cookouts, family and friend time, and good fireworks. I watched Rodger light up some purchased last year but never got used until this year.
We spent some time on home projects and got some stacked crown molding up, well half a room. The other half has some unusual angles for a bump out on the front of the house to simulate a bay window/mock turret. I am not good with angles, and I failed geometry in high school, so Rodger will be working on that.
I am now thinking of painting the front of Jenny’s General building, leaning towards barn read with cream trim for a vintage small town country store aesthetic.
I still need to address the roof, which will likely just be galvanized metal which will look nice over the red and cream building. Very “country general store” in my opinion.
If I find a few moments I will start taking down the greenhouse myself as I wait for a response from the second family that expressed a desire to have it for their farm. It looks so ratty and ugly and distracts from the store, so it needs to come down.
The heat is a hindrance, as well, and likely why the first person never returned for it. I hate working in the heat myself, but, when necessary, it just has to be dealt with even if it hurts me. I will bring over some scaffolding and get to work on it soon.
When traveling through Nixburg keep an eye out for the yard sale that benefits Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church, usually held on Saturday mornings. Never know what treasure you will find, and all proceeds benefit the church.
Please plan on joining us for the Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting on the fourth Thursday of the month, July 24, at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is provided by Dave Dail. You can bring a dish if you like or make a small donation, but no obligation; we just want our neighbors to be informed and participate in keeping our community safe.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
