Special to the News
On Tuesday, June 24, Sheriff Michael Howell, Jail Administrator Shelia Thomas and other staff members escorted two Coosa County inmates to Hatchet Creek to be baptized.
The Jail Ministry Team, under the Central Baptist Association, ministers to the Coosa County inmates weekly. Members of the Jail Ministry Team are Lee and Dana Wilder, Lilly Lynch, Matthew Reams, and Kent and Angel Cooper.
Through their faithful dedication of ministering to the inmates, two inmates professed their faith and wished to be baptized. Howell, along with the Jail Ministry Team, came together to make the baptism possible for these two individuals.
Howell stated, “Today was a blessed day. The Jail Ministry Team spends countless hours ministering to inmates in the Coosa County Jail. They share the gospel each week, and I’m proud to have them willing to serve in the Coosa County Jail. They are faithful in carrying out the Bible verses Matthew 25:34-40.”
Those verses read, “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”
Howell and his staff appreciate the Jail Ministry Team and their dedication to ministering to those incarcerated at the county jail.
“I cannot thank them enough for their willingness to serve,” Howell said. “I’m very proud of the Jail Ministry Team, and I’m both blessed and honored to be able to witness the baptism of two people who gave their heart to the Lord. May God continue to bless them all.”
