David A. Bass, Rockford Church of Christ
A “plan” is necessary for any successful endeavor in life. We may not think about it, but everything that we are successful in has a plan. Remember: Plan your work and work your plan.
The fisherman who wins the tournament has a plan. The basketball, baseball, or football team that wins always has a plan. Home remodeling requires a plan. The successful business has a plan. Success is rarely stumbled upon.
If we are to be successful as a Christian and as a congregation we must have a plan. Going to heaven will not happen accidentally. Teaching the lost will not happen without a plan. The saved will not be encouraged without a plan. The needy will remain needy unless we have a plan to help them. The church will not grow spiritually or numerically without a plan!
We want to go to heaven. What is our plan to get there? Jesus has done His part, and now it is up to us. Just attending Bible study and worship will not get us to heaven. Just being a good moral person will not get us to heaven. We must have a plan; we must adopt God’s plan for our lives. Are we “working” our plan?
What is our plan for bringing people to Jesus? How many people have we invited to Bible Study or worship in the last year? Do we have a list of people that we want to teach the gospel to?
Matthew 28:18-20 reads, “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”
Are we helping those who are sick? What about the poor, and what about those in prison? What are we doing to encourage our brethren? What are we doing for the spiritual welfare of the church?
Read and study Matthew 25:31-46.
