Union Square News
Ruby Johnson
Where a few people are gathered in the name of Jesus, Jesus is all in the midst, and at Monday night’s Union Square Neighborhood Watch meeting, He showered down on a few people enjoying the blessing.
It was a blessed meeting learning about many subjects, particularly the law, something that everyone should learn and know before you put your feet in hot water.
We were also blessed with another kind of law when Judge David Law graced the meeting, and with some great knowledge on important topics, as well as Sheriff Michael Howell.
Sheriff Howell passed out the “Sheriff’s Star” of Coosa County. He commended the law enforcement staff, and he thanked E-911 dispatchers for their service and dedication honoring them this month in recognition of National Telecommunications Week, April 13-19, and highly honored Capt. Shelia Thomas, jail administrator, on her promotion and a job well done in all of her doings.
I personally admire and honor Mrs. Thomas. She is a hard working strong lady, and she loves God and people.
You who don’t come to Neighborhood Watch meetings are missing out on good information and fellowship with your neighbors and people of your communities.
At times like these we need to know each other and show more love. We are livig in a cruel silent world where people are afraid to speak up to the truth.
We appreciate President Johnny and his wife, Robin Schmidt, for taking time out of their busy working schedule to come to these Neighborhood Watch meetings and do a good job, as well as some others: Ms. Susan Rogers, Sherry Shaw and Butch Hardman, all who have a job, but still find a way to make it there, even the ones who don’t have a job. Thank you for supporting the meetings.
We truly miss Mrs. Pat Windsor and Mr. Aaron Riggins, two faithful attendants, and most definitely Mr. Kenny Shaw. We cannot say enough about these three people.
Union Square wishes Johnny and Robin Schmidt a great happy anniversary – 39 years of bonded love on April 6. We also wish their son, Cody Schmidt, a happy birthday and many more blessed ones. We love you, Cody.
Happy birthday to my nieces, Michelle Hill, Shamika Brown and Jeanette Crayton, and to Ricky Hanna and all April babies.
Prayers and condolences go to the family of Mr. James Atkins, who left us to go home to be with the Lord. Union Square is in mourning deeply.
Here is a little laugh for the soul to take our mind off of some sadness. Dick Gregory, a comedic legend, once said this as a joke: The last time he was down South he walked into a restaurant. The white waitress came to him and said, “We don’t serve colored people.” He said, “That’s alright; I don’t eat colored people. Bring me a whole fried chicken.”
About that time these three cousins came in, Ku, Klux and Klan. They said, “Boy, we are giving you fair warning. Anything you do to that chicken, we gonna do to you.” So he (Dick) put down his knife and fork, picked up that chicken and kissed it.
