Special to the News
Career Tech Education (CTE) students recently completed the online modules for the Asphalt Roller and Skid Steer Skills for Success courses.
This week they had to complete 16 hours of hands-on operation of the equipment in order to obtain their official certifications. Last year’s classes started the trend of finding a CTE Campus project to work on that allows them to give back to the school while completing the required hours.
This year’s class continued that trend by expanding the parking area for the softball field by grading down the bank and packing the parking area.
Now that we have these six asphalt roller certified students and 12 skid steer certified students to add to the students from last year, we are making plans to offer a bulldozer course before the end of the school year, and we will begin to expand the parking area further by pushing up the wooded area between the existing parking lot and the gate to enter the campus. This will take place in small increments so that the jobs can be completed during the time the students have equipment to operate.
Coosa County Tech Center director Ms. Hamby and softball coach Elliott are thankful to them for stepping up to improve the campus for all CTE students and the softball team. It is also encouraging to see the students excited about learning more for future campus improvement projects.
Congratulations to Jefferson Schwall, DJ Cardwell, Rodrigo Xool, Kirby Clark, Mallorie Feltman, Eli Self, Jacob Stevens, Ethyn Tison, Ethan Cosby, Christopher Prowell, and James Duncan for completing their certifications.
Thank you to our automotive technology instructor, Jarrod Washington, for leading his students in pursuing these certifications to be career ready upon graduation.
