June Calmes
Ms. June Calmes, 78, of Kellyton, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at her home.
She was born on October 7, 1946, in the Village of Warsaw, New York, to Joseph Neopolian Huppe and Betty Laura LeClair Huppe. June enjoyed jewelry work. She also enjoyed gem mining and gem cutting. June loved to go traveling and visiting with her family. She was an amazing and selfless person, always willing to give to anyone in need.
She is survived by her daughter, Angela Marie Calmes (Richard) Wales of Eustis, Fla.; sons, Richard Arthor Calmes, III of Orlando, Fla., and Gregory Allen Calmes of Mooresville, N.C.; life partner, Peter Gawreluk of Kellyton; grandchildren, Alexandria Brianna Wales, Holly Katilyn Wales, Cassidy Amber Wales, Jarod Andrew Wales, Jacob Alexander Calmes, Chloe Bianca Calmes, and Anthony Christian Calmes; great-grandchildren, Oakland Ann Calmes and Lewis Johnson Calmes; and sister, Loretta Beatrice Huppe Morrill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joseph Paul Huppe and James Gerald Huppe.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.

Willette Martin
Memorial Service for Mrs. Willette Martin, 96, of Alexander City, will be Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. David Sherrell and Rev. Scott Railey will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hackneyville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Radney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Martin passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born on August 8, 1928, in Alexander City to Franklin Alphonso Hancock and Emily Felicia Scroggins Hancock. She was a cherished pillar of the Hackneyville community and a devout member of Cornerstone First Global Methodist Church. Born and raised in Hackneyville, Mrs. Martin’s pride in her roots was evident through her active involvement in community life. Her dedication to her faith shone brightly as she served as the pianist for the Hackneyville First Methodist Church for more than 25 years, and her passion for nurturing spirits was reflected in the Sunday School classes she taught with great care and love. She also had a love of flowers, always using the beauty of God’s nature to make arrangements to display at her church in Hackneyville.
Those who knew Mrs. Martin will remember her for the warmth and joy she brought into their lives, especially through her greatest love – cooking. Her kitchen was a haven of generosity, where she shared not just meals, but also moments of connection and comfort.
A wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Martin’s absence will be deeply felt. Her unwavering kindness and spirited laughter will be sorely missed, but the memories she created will forever be treasured by all who were fortunate to know her.
She is survived by her daughters, Patty (Larry) Gunn of Opelika and Kathy (Scott) Railey of Goodwater; grandchildren, Audra (Nicky) Spears, Steve (Kristie) Gunn, Scott (Teresa) Gunn, Matt (Whitney) Railey, Steve (Jillian) Railey, and Elizabeth (Matt) Riggs; great-grandchildren, Johnny Spears, A.J. Phillips, Sam Railey, Jack Railey, Piper Railey, Blake Railey, Layne Railey, Parker Riggs, Crew Riggs, Matthew Douthit, and Trevor Douthit; and great-great-grandchildren, Griffin Phillips and Archer Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lois Perry Martin; brother, Wade Hancock; and sister, Jean Osborn.

Jimmy Lee Steen Sr., age 88, of Sylacauga, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Steen and Helen Colston Steen; first wife,

Margie Ann Summerland; great-grandson, Payton Lee McDonald; and paternal grandparents,
Jimmy W. Steen and Flo Mozelle Steen.
Jimmy started out in Sylacauga working for Lee Sumners as a mechanic at the age of 15. He and his father started the Steen’s Wrecker Service in 1962 in Sylacauga, working until his retirement in 2022. He was a hard worker servicing the community for 60 years. He was known as a jokester with his family and friends. He loved to camp, putting puzzles together and playing with the kids. Every morning, he enjoyed his breakfast at Hardees.
A funeral service will occur Friday, February 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Matthew Reams and Bro. Donnie Blackmon officiating.
Jimmy will be laid to rest in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery; 1501 Talladega Highway; Sylacauga, AL 35150.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Sanders, A.J. Munroe, Justin Haigler, Robert Reams, Rodney Carrol, Tommy Tice, Jake Thrash, Jonathan Jones, Zack Sanders, and Boyd Allen.
