Virginia Futral

Funeral service for Mrs. Virginia Futral, 83, of Goodwater, will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Bro. Ken Milner and Bro. Daniel Dean will officiate. Burial will follow in the Smyrna Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 9, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.
Virginia Darling Futral passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Baptist South Medical Center. She was born on February 4, 1941, in Sylacauga. She was the daughter of Mr. Azariah Darling and Mrs. Thelma Lou Baird Darling.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Wendy Futral Anderson (Robby) of Wetumpka; grandchildren, Jasmine Nichole Anderson and William “Will” Michael Anderson of Wetumpka; sisters-in-law, Teresa Scott (Ed) of Goodwater and Gail Darling of Sylacauga; brother-in-law, Jessie Cecil Futral (Carolyn) of Collinsville, Miss.; a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 58 years, William J. Futral; sister-in-law, Martha Smith; brothers, Curtis “Hoot” Darling, Daniel Darling, John Darling, and Kenneth Darling.
Virginia was a member of Smyrna Primitive Baptist Church in Goodwater. She loved Sacred Harp Singing. Her last job was working as a substitute teacher in the Coosa County School System. She was a farmer’s wife. She was known for her cooking skills, as well as selling their vegetables, fruit, canned goods, and honey at local farmer’s markets alongside her husband.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the medical staff at Elmore Community Hospital and Baptist South Medical Center. They would also like to thank the many special friends that have helped Virginia in the past few years.

Frank Unger

 

Frank Unger, age 71, of Sylacauga, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025.

Frank Unger was born on May 19, 1953, near Sullivan, Indiana. At eight years of age, he moved with his family to Alabama. They settled just outside of Sylacauga, in Coosa County, where Frank spent most of his life.

In his early years, Frank’s talent for painting and singing was unmistakable. He began painting while attending Weogufka High School, where he painted the Pirate’s team mascot on the gymnasium wall. Frank was also an amazing vocalist. After high school he went into music as the frontman for several rock & roll bands, including Hands of Time, Straight Shooter, Dark Castle, and others.

Later, Frank turned to photography and again to painting. He worked as a photographer and created hand painted portraits of area residents for many years at Don Smith’s Home of Photography.

Frank is survived by his brothers, John William “Bill” Unger (Sue) and Mike Gordon Unger (Sherry).  Nieces include Sharon Hamilton (Andy), Tabatha Hyatt (Jonathon), Tammy KosKella (Derek), Valerie Smith (Rob), and Rachel Robinson (Mac). Nephews are: Richard Thrower and Paul Kimbrell (Jenny). Frank also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews too numerous to name.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, John Gordon and Mary Jane Unger; sister, Barbara Tucker; sister-in-law, Mary Louise Unger; and two nieces, April Unger and Heather Meeks.

 

Services will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Radney-Smith Funeral Home, 320 N. Elm Ave., Sylacauga, 35150. Visitation begins at 2:00 p.m., followed by a Life Celebration at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Tommy Thornton of Weogufka Family Worship Center presiding.

Brent Orlando Watts

Funeral service for Brent Orlando Watts, 42, of Equality, was held Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church in Titus with Pastor Grady Cook Sr. officiating. Interment followed at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Equality.

Brent Orlando Watts was born on June 9, 1982, to Michael and Debra Watts. He departed this life on January 27, 2025, at his home in Equality.

In his twenties Brent accepted Christ into his life. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church in Titus, where Pastor Grady Cook Sr. serves as pastor.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his wife, Paula Watts; his devoted mother, Debra Watts; his father, Michael Watts, all of Equality; two sons, Tyreke Watts and Gable Watts; three daughters, Breunna Chenel Watts, Jamil Nicole Watts, and Jamaya Foster; one brother, Brad Anthony Watts; two adopted sisters, Shirley Jackson and Sandra Lowery; one adopted son, Deontae Patterson; two stepchildren, Bryauna Woody and Chaz Russell; five step-grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
