A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 12:15 a.m. Saturday, January 25, has claimed the life of a Weogufka man.
Dustin W. Butler, 28, was fatally injured when the 1998 Ford Explorer he was a passenger in left the roadway, struck a tree and overturned. Butler was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected.
Butler was transported to Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga and subsequently airlifted to University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital for medical treatment. On Sunday, January 26, Dustin W. Butler succumbed to injuries sustained during the crash and was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Ford was Tommy S. Butler, 39, of Sylacauga.
The crash occurred on U.S. National Forest Road 601D, approximately four miles from the Sylacauga City Limits, in Clay County.
Nothing further is available as troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
