Donna Goswick Acklin

 

Donna Goswick Acklin, age 63, of Weogufka, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024. Donna was born in Sylacauga to Esther Goswick and Paul Goswick.

Donna is survived by her husband, Curtis Acklin; her son, Matt Cook; her daughter, Jacklynn Lackey (Shannon); her daughter, Courtney Owens (Chris); and her daughter, Meagan Acklin; her mother, Esther Goswick; her sister, Paula Patterson (John); her 12 grandchildren; and her 1 great-grandchild.

Donna was preceded in death by her son, Nathan Cook; daughter, Melissa Brazier; her father, Paul Goswick; and her brother, Michael Goswick.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 2 p.m. at New Day Ministries in Childersburg with Brother Ronnie Snyder officiating.

 

James Terry Browning

 

James Terry Browning, age 72, of Equality, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

Terry is survived by his wife, Bettye Browning; his sisters, Judy Stults (Charles), Diana Collins (Larry), Connie Barker (Richard), and Sandra Poe; his brother, Don Browning (Crystal); and his sister-in-law, Sue Ann Browning; and his best friends, Phil and Debe Wooley.

Terry was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice Coxwell Browning; his parents, William Henry and Maurice Ruby Browning; his brother, Jerry Wayne Browning; and his nephew, Clint Walker.

Terry also leaves a host of nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.

Terry was on the 1969 State Championship team from Clay County. He also was a firefighter with the Alex City Fire Department from 1971 until 1976.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Rev. Roger Green

 

Funeral Service for Rev. Roger Green, 75, of Goodwater, was Friday, December 27, 2024, at the God’s House Church. Dr. Josh Sammons, Rev. Donald DeLee and Bro. Neal Smith officiated. Burial followed in the Old Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.

Rev. Roger Green; a cherished spiritual leader, devoted family man and passionate sports enthusiast; passed away surrounded by his loving family. Born with a heart full of joy and wisdom, Roger’s presence was a beacon of love and laughter for all who knew him.

Roger leaves behind a legacy of faith and family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Brenda Bryan Green of Goodwater; his daughters, Robin Bolt and Darlene (Steve) Parish; his sons, Dale (April) Green and Bryan (Desiree) Green; his grandchildren, Josh Bolt, Kayla Bolt, Dylan Green, Dakota Green, Scott (Chelsea) Parish, Travis (Kameron) Parish, Kyle Parish, Nashlyn Green, Keegan Sharpe, and Paislee Greyce Sharpe; and his great-grandchildren, Jaci Bolt, Ari Bolt, Dylan Parish, AK Parish, Masyn Phillips, Rook Parish; and one great-grandchild on the way. Roger’s life was further enriched by a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Wallace Green; his mother, Margaret Louise Green; his brother, Jimmy Green; and his sisters, Robbie Marable and Ruby Thompson.

Rev. Green dedicated his life to his ministry, shepherding the congregation at God’s House Church in Hackneyville with unwavering commitment and love. His work extended beyond the pulpit as he shared his talents through his self-employed auto body paint and repair business. Roger’s hands were skilled, and his work was a testament to his attention to detail and his desire to serve others.

Roger’s interests painted the picture of a life lived with vigor and joy. He loved Jesus with all his heart and extended that love to his church family at God’s House and to his own family and friends. A champion dirt track race driver, Roger’s competitive spirit was matched only by his sportsmanship and camaraderie. He showcased his athletic prowess on the basketball court and the softball field, playing on the Russell Corp. traveling basketball team and taking pride as a proud member of the Hackneyville Rockets basketball team. Off the court, he was an avid fan of Duke basketball and could often be found enjoying episodes of Gunsmoke, immersed in the tales of the Wild West.

Roger Green was the epitome of a loving soul, a wise guide, and a funny companion who could light up a room with his humor. His warm heart and deep wisdom touched countless lives, leaving behind memories that will continue to inspire and comfort those he loved.

As we bid farewell to Rev. Roger Green, we celebrate a life that exemplified love in action, wisdom in words, and joy in every endeavor. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the family he adored. Roger’s journey on earth has ended, but his spirit remains a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Hattie B. Leverett

A precious one from us is gone, a voice we love is still, and a place is vacant in our home that can never be filled. On June 22, 1944, Milton and Hattie Leverett welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Hattie B. Leverette, in Coosa County. A beacon of kindness and love will forever reside in our hearts. She departed this walk of life on December 18, 2024, at her residence in Rockford.

Hattie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. As a child she united her faith and became a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Hanover. Later she united her faith and became a member of First Baptist Church in Rockford. She received her education in the Coosa County School System and Sylacauga City School System, attending J.D. Thompson and East Highland High School.

Shortly after receiving her education, she was employed with Russell Mills for many years as a seamstress and line waitress. After retiring, she enjoyed going to restaurants, watching movies, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Hattie was known for her radiant smile, amazing cakes and pies, and world-renowned chicken dressing.

Hattie was preceded in death by her mother and father, Milton and Hattie Leverett; her son, John; brothers, Jather Lauderdale and Robert Lauderdale; and sister, Brenda Wilson.

Her love will forever be cherished by adored sister, Juliette Cunningham; special caretaker nephew, Darryl Cunningham; sisters-in-law, Janet Lauderdale and Maggie Lauderdale; close nieces and nephews that were her bonus children, Michelle (George) Grimes, Christopher (Shericko) Leverette, Marcus Leverett, and Robin (Verlon) Frazier; and a host of other relatives, loving great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

Celebration of life for Hattie B. Leverett, age 80, was held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Rockford. Pastor Stanford Benson officiated. Interment commenced in the Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hanover.

Derek Jonathon McVey

 

Funeral service for Mr. Derek Jonathon McVey, 36, of Kellyton, will be Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Bro. Norman Strickling and Pastor Tony Harris will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.

Mr. McVey passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024. He was born on March 29, 1988, in Alexander City, to Tony Lee McVey and Tina Culberson McVey. A 2006 graduate of Horseshoe Bend High School, Derek’s zest for life was as boundless as the open roads and creeks he loved to explore. Derek’s passion for the outdoors was evident to all, as he pursued hunting and fishing with a fervor matched only by his unwavering support for the Alabama Crimson Tide. His love for adventure was paralleled by his robust work ethic, a trait he wore as a badge of honor, always extending a hand to those in need.

Above all, Derek’s role as a loving father to his son was unparalleled; he infused every moment with devotion and care. He was the cherished brother, son, uncle, and friend whose vibrant spirit and genuine goodness will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

He is survived by his son, Derek Logan Lee McVey, and Logan’s mother, Lacie McVey; son, Ayden Harris; daughter, Maddie Rape; mother, Tina McVey of Kellyton; sisters, Deborah Lee (Lee) Seaton of Alexander City, Stormee Annette (Robert Palmer) McVey of Anchorage, Alaska, Haleigh Danielle (Cody) Padgett of Kellyton, Rachel Alexis McVey of Kellyton; brother, Thomas Matthew McVey of Kellyton; nieces, Emma Grace Seaton, Everleigh Rayne Padgett, Emberleigh Blake Padgett, and Brianna Seaton; grandfathers, Robert McVey and Morris Culberson; bonus brothers, Ray (Tiffany) Turner, Matthew (Ginger) Channell, and Steven (Lulu) Sims.

He was preceded in death by his father, Tony Lee McVey; grandmothers, Alice Culberson and Alma Ruth McVey; and aunt, Tracy Buck.

Jerrie Sue Northcutt

 

Jerrie Sue Northcutt, age 77, of Sylacauga, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024.

Jerrie is survived by her sons, Bill Northcutt (Carmen) and Brian Northcutt (Stephanie); her grandchildren, Cody Northcutt, Mark Northcutt, Laura Smith, Justin Northcutt, Jessica Kear, Heather Ellias, Noah Northcutt, Kady Northcutt, and Joshua Northcutt; her four great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Jerrie was preceded in death by her husband, George Earl Northcutt; her sons, Ronnie Northcutt and James Adam Northcutt; and her grandson, Joshua Northcutt.

A visitation will occur on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Estelle Community Church at 366 Coosa County Road 35, Weogufka, 35183, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Bro. Mark Deason will officiate the service.

Jerrie will be laid to rest at Bluff Springs Cemetery at 350 New County Line Road, Sylacauga, 35151.

Ginger Anne Waites

 

Funeral service for Ms. Ginger Anne Waites, 67, of Alexander City, was Monday, December 30, 2024, at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Chip Vann and Rev. Mike Densmore officiated. Burial followed in the Hillview Memorial Park.

Ms. Waites passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Russell Medical.  She was born on September 29, 1957, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, to Henry Drayton Waites and Billie Turner. A passionate equestrian, Ginger’s love for horseback riding was infectious, especially when she shared stories of her treasured times with Smokey. Her competitive nature shone brightly as she gracefully participated in rodeo events, a testament to her determination and skill.

A proud graduate of Benjamin Russell, Ginger’s school spirit was undeniable. She cheered on her team with the same enthusiasm whether on the sidelines as a cheerleader or soaring high as a gymnast. Her love for dance was nurtured for years under the guidance of Mrs. Carlisle, which only added to her impressive repertoire of talents.

An avid Auburn Tigers fan, Ginger never missed a chance to root for her team, bringing together family and friends for each thrilling game. Above all, her nieces, nephew, and great-nephews were the apples of her eye, and she showered them with immeasurable love and affection. Ginger’s radiant smile will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her mother, Billie (Carman) Turner of Alexander City; brother, Jeff (Dianne) Waites of Fitzpatrick; aunts, Helen June Neese of Alexander City, Jeanette McKissick of Alexander City, and Anne Barkley of Equality; nieces, Brittney (Charles) Brasington of Prattville, and Morgan Waites of Auburn; and nephew, Wesley Waites of Auburn.

She was preceded in death by her father; and aunts, Margie Williamson, Sara Nell Davis, and Doris Jean Futral.

Wayne Weeks

Funeral service for Wayne Weeks, 81, of Alexander City, was Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the Rockford Church of God. Pastor Chris Hill officiated.
Mr. Wayne Weeks; a cherished pillar of his community and a beacon of faith, generosity, and love; passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on February 21, 1943, Wayne’s journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, his church, and the many lives he touched with his kindness.
Wayne was a devout member of the Rockford Church of God, where his presence was a constant source of comfort and inspiration. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with everyone he met. Wayne’s loving nature was evident in the way he embraced life’s challenges with grace and optimism, always finding the good in people and situations.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his son, David Wayne Weeks and his wife, Sandy, of Calera; his daughters, Teresa Weeks and Melissa Weeks, both of Acworth, Georgia; his grandchildren, Jesse Weeks and his wife, Lauren, Justin Weeks and his wife, Margaret, Kelsie Sanders, David Pittman, James Pittman, and Lucy Pittman; and his great-grandchild, Rhett Weeks, who all brought immense joy and pride to his life.
Wayne’s memory will also be cherished by his brother, Jimmy Weeks, and his wife, Carolyn; his brother-in-law, Collins Knowles, and his wife, Donna; and his sister-in-law, Marilyn Weeks. These family members, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, will miss his generous spirit and the warmth of his presence.
Preceding him in death was his beloved wife, Mary Agnes Weeks, who was undoubtedly waiting to welcome him with open arms. Wayne was also preceded in death by his father, James Cecil Weeks; his mother, Lona Bell Weeks Redding; his brother, Ronnie Weeks; and his stepfather, Jesse Redding. The reunion with his loved ones in eternity was a moment he looked forward to with hope and faith.
Throughout his life, Wayne was known for his generosity. He gave freely of his time, resources, and wisdom, always eager to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. He possessed an innate ability to make others feel valued and loved, a trait that endeared him to many and will be sorely missed.
Wayne’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his influence will continue to be felt through the countless lives he enriched. His legacy is one of unwavering faith, boundless love, and selfless generosity – virtues that will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends.
As we bid farewell to Mr. Wayne Weeks, we do so with the assurance that his life was well-lived and his spirit will remain with us. We celebrate the time we had with him and take comfort in the knowledge that his faith has now been made sight.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Wayne will be laid to rest in a private ceremony, surrounded by those who loved him most. As we honor his memory, let us hold fast to the lessons he imparted and strive to live by the example he set – an example of unwavering faith, unconditional love, and unparalleled generosity. Rest in peace, Wayne; your legacy will endure.
