Joseph “Joe” Allison Collins

On November 6, 2024, Joseph Allison Collins, 104, from the Welona community of Rockford, passed away at his home. He was born January 11, 1920, to Milton and Jessie Collins.

Graveside services were held Monday, November 11, 2024, at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Andy Dickson officiating.

Mr. Collins was a faithful member of Providence Baptist and loved his church, family and community. He served his country proudly in WWII at Polebrook, England. His time in the service were the only days he lived outside of Welona. A true entrepreneur while never having a boss, his life was filled with many jobs he chose, from cutting timber when he returned from the war, to raising cattle, farming, land management, selling small farm equipment and go carts. Mr. Collins was eager to share his vast memory of Coosa County and its history with all who asked.

Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Elizabeth Hanna Collins of 61 years; brothers, Thomas Theron Collins and William Leon Collins; sisters, Jessie Mae (Tommy) Collier and Agnes (Robert) Corley.

He was surrounded by loving friends, Karen and Gary Tillery, Sandra Steverson, Geane Woodfin, Genny McGrady, June Bailey, and Milann Brown, who took care of him in his final years.

Pallbearers were Campbell Woods, Corley Woods, Jonathan Hill, Steven Corley, Russ Collier, and Jason Britt. Honorary pallbearers were Donald Bice, Don Bice, Brian Bice, Bruce Glenn, Sammy Robinson, Johnny Waites, Bill Shaw, Ronnie Knight, and Larry Hilyer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Cemetery Fund; C/O Pam Buttram; P.O. Box 191; Rockford, AL 35136.
